god okay this might sound totally ridiculous, but do you know of a good source for finding the names of all the beyond evil characters? cause i'm trying to write my first fic for the fandom, but literally the names are spelled differently everywhere i look. like, for example, sometimes its dongsik. but sometimes it's also dong-sik, or dong sik, or dong shik. and ngl, it's stressing me out.
oh, not a ridiculous question at all! i personally go to asianwiki for the names of characters who i might not remember quite as well (ie. i needed to look up the name of kang do su's wife, im seon nyeo...i remember liking her character a lot, but they also don't say her name a whole ton, so that's why i was glad this page existed.)
in terms of name consistency: i personally like putting a space between the characters' name syllables (so "Dong Sik" instead of "dongsik" or "dong-sik") just because i feel like that's the closest in terms of authenticity, only because one of my korean friends pointed out that a lot of people feel the need to put the syllables together or hyphenate names as some way to appease westerners...which....i can understand that perspective, but idk? as a korean-american, i'm not entirely bothered by it (for example, i spell the romanization of my own korean name as one name--"hyejin" instead of "hye jin"). but when it comes to writing fic, i guess that thing my friend told me stuck with me, which is why i separate the syllables. (that said though, i'm not very offended by those who stick the syllables together, and i don't think most people are bothered by it either).
in terms of more specific character names: i would very much go with "dong sik" over "dong shik" just because the subtitles in more common streaming platforms like netflix or viki use "dong sik", i believe. i personally also prefer "joo won" over "ju won" just mostly out of personal preferences? (and also idk, if i want to write that joo won's name is cut off, it's just more satisfying to me to write "joo--" instead of "ju--", so that's a silly reason, but it makes sense to me lol)
anyways, long story short: it doesn't particularly matter. i say if anything, choose your preferred spelling and keep it consistent throughout the fic! best of luck writing!
