i just saw dongji rescue. that was the first time i’ve cried at the movie theatre.

I'm a bit disappointed to see that Dongji Island seems to be doing very badly in box office in China, and the reviews are bad. But at least most audience seem to have a problem with directing and storytelling, not the acting.

i watched dongji rescue! that was the second best chinese film ive seen (first one being nezha 2), what is WITH the chinese films getting insane budget and quality this year! it was REALLY good!! classic historical film with one eye closed to real events to make the plot more engaging but i think it worked! i will say the pacing fell a bit short but the cinematography, dubbing (ive never heard british accents that good in cmedia before) and acting was so good... the scale and impact of the stakes and death was incredible, i was STRESSED. also a-dang and newman were like.. met 2 minutes ago and theyre practically soulmates. so much tension between those two

two things i need to highlight

zhu yilong is so unbearably hot. theres one scene where hes covered in blood and i genuinely think my heart stopped

i never expected to hear Birmingham mentioned in a Chinese film. it felt like being slapped. i loved it.
