Baotou (包頭) is the wrapping and styling of the hair and headwear for dan roles (旦角; female characters) in Chinese opera. The steps include putting on a hair net, binding the scalp to lift the brows, adding hairpieces to the sides of the face and the forehead, and adding hair extensions/wigs and head ornaments. Nowadays, tape and glue are used to help keep things in place so the head doesn't have to be bound as tightly as in the past, but even so, long periods of wear can cause dizziness or nausea. OP specifically does Henan opera (豫劇; yu4ju4).

#yeah #we got 29 this week and it was bad #the ac at my workplace broke #and that building is like a giant heat trap #even with the ac on #huge-ass windows facing east to take in all the sun and a high af roof with a concrete skeleton #it got to the point where our boss had the employees on the second floor keep thermometers #and measure the temp at specific intervals #and make a little graph out of the data #(presumably to have some leverage with the owners of the building to get the ac fixed)#it was crazy #customers were complaining about the heat and we had to remain polite and not respond #‘boohoo does that make you sad? well i live here bitch and do you see me complaining?#and the worst part is that it’s gonna take like a full week of lower temperatures to flush all that heat out of the building again
