There is a sadness in that there are next to no new in depth lore discussions or content following DA4. It ended up extinguishing the fires that kept it going. Questions, speculations & fun theories gone. Change is wonderful, but it has to be coherent & respectful to the og creators & artistry.

Instead there are two camps one devoted to defending Veilguard and the other saddened & frustrated Dragon Age fans watching their favourite IP be so deliberately reduced to nothingness.

lot of people commenting on this post like "who eats lunch at 4pm that's a terrible time to eat lunch" yes. that is the point. 4pm lunch is inadvisable. 4pm lunch is not the ideal. 4pm lunch makes the mind demons real.

In Masked Empire Felassan helps Michel kill a few Dalish at their own camp to stop them escaping, then his encounter with Imshael allows Michel to free the demon instead of vanquishing it & this gets the Dalish camp massacred. (pp. 257–260)

He isn’t particularly devastated about it, which is fine for a jaded general battling thousands of years of wars against the Evanuris.

But the collective whiplash from the retcon narrative in DA4 of look how “reasonable and kind he was and would never hurt innocents” when the big bad Wolf tricks spirits into dying & giggling about it. His memorable quote was “Solas! We’re supposed to be better than that.” When he finds out Solas just got hundreds of spirits killed as a decoy to get something from Elgar’nan’s palace.

It cheapens the whole thing quite frankly all to poorly make out new ways of The Dread Wolf being ruthless without even bothering or caring for reference any of the actual things he did in the previous game, or even in a average written book.

They added Felassan’s unresolved grievance in DA4 who just rants as we fight it what happened to Felassan and it has been changed from what happened in Masked Empire… inconsistency man.

Also the concept of Felassan giggling at the idea of Briala and Celene, ah it’s toxic yuri but why you gotta make it weird…and about male fantasies okay cool.

Should I mention Felassan was written to tell hilarious life lesson stories by boss got caught and was gonna be a non consensual s3x slave to Andruil for a year and a day but he managed to trick her and get out of it…valuable life lesson their Briala…also super funny amirite… Like dude, are you okay?

And that was achieved by erasing pivotal plot points, established cultures and characters from the narrative in this past games in a manner that legitimately did not make any sense.

But wait! They kindly let us design our past protagonist, even had an option for who they romanced but it doesn’t matter at all unless it’s that one guy. And they’re either a sad wifey or a sad comrade. Also no they don’t get closure, no they have no agency, and yes they were written last minute by a totally different team in an redemption ending for that guy and everything was his fault…but he was also a slave bound to his master but she did nothing wrong, they tried to tell him to chill but he didn’t listen…because everything is his fault…except that guy’s redemption ending is him being freed from his master’s service which makes him stop being …smug?

Bright side is your former protagonist gets to give up their entire life and go to jail with their beloved, because that’s the fate they deserve also they’re a mortal and can’t actually survive there…

Oh and that guy? Yeah, we (the writers) threw him in a cupboard and he’s basically powerless with zero followers because he upsets the creative director and protagonist self insert for a myriad of very mature and rational reasons, and he also thinks villains in medieval fantasy fiction are manosphere podcasters…
