Childhood Cartoons 001: Sagwa
Sagwa the Chinese Siamese Cat
I had a lot of fun redrawing this. Sagwa is also another dear PBS show that I loved watching growing up. I still visit this show on YouTube from time to time. :)

Does anyone remember this cat?
Sagwa The Chinese Siamese Cat Charles Morgenstern, 2021.
Hay guys, does anyone remember the PBS Show Sagwa?
Dude, I loved that show. With the new decade and all, I got nostalgic for it. (It premiered around 2001?)
I drew the three main characters as adults as they are only portrayed as kittens in the show.
From left: Sheegwa, the youngest sibling, she takes over as chief calligrapher in the Palace. She opens up to teach kittens to be scribes, though they are not of royal birth. Her pupil here, for example, is a son of the alley cat Jet-Jet. I think Sheegwa would have lighter markings that her siblings. (She was always portrayed as pure white in the show. I don’t know how the Palace scribe cats are “marked.” But it must occur when they reach a certain age. As we see Dongwa without facial markings in the first episode. I am not certain of this.) I made Sheegwa’s markings reminiscent of Mama Miao’s.
Sagwa: I think Sagwa went on to explore the world as she seems to be the most forward thinker of the trio. As she states, “I am a curious cat!” She wears a headdress similar to Mama Miao’s. I think she got together with her childhood friend Fam perhaps.
Dongwa: As the eldest he probably had kittens first. He married Hun-Hun. He’s got Baba Miao’s stache! He and Hun-Hun had two kits named Wim Bao (left) and Shao Fun - after Mama and Baba Miao.
Art is mine.
All characters except for the kittens belong to Sesame Workshop.
