A few years ago I was dealing with a merger between two #realestate holding companies and with one property in particular there was a great portion of the building that was paying below #marketrates. The incoming property manager was this incredibly smart and eager kid from Seattle, while he was great with numbers he was abysmally defunct with people. As we worked on increasing the value of the portfolio he without much thought proposed removing the grandfathered tenants in sweeps with legalities and subpar buyouts. When I fought him on it - his defense was (to him) simple, these people need to “get it together” as he put it and stop thinking life would just remain easy for them, and how he had struggled and clawed his way to where he was because he put in work etc. On paper in dollars and cents he made sense, but in practice his theory was flawed like a mf. These people had lived there for OVER 20 yrs. After speaking with the major #investor I relayed the news to Josh (changed his name to protect his ego haha) that we would not be kicking them out and that we had found a way to keep them while expanding the site. The decision to find a way to get rid of the people who apparently were an “inconvenience“ was made by a man who had his parents pay his way through college, who lived with a roommate in an affluent neighborhood while living on credit cards from his dad and had gotten three promotions over 10 years. The decision to find a way to preserve some karma while doing some kickass business had been approved by none other than our head investor, a man who had fled Syria as a teenager with his aunt, who worked in butcher shops and supermarkets and sold fruit on the streets till he was 23..... Stay blessed bitchachos 🤙 #cafeconleche w/ #donkarlito
