Feminist and Angry
Lately, I’ve been stumbling upon terminology that I find baffling. According to the Internet God of the Millennials, there is no longer just feminism, but white feminism, black feminism, colored feminism, and so forth.
First off, as a person of mixed ethnic background (but just look at that profile picture, I sure look like whitey McWhitenstein) I find this confusing...so, do I need to sign up for Native American feminism, or do I get mixed feminism, or crap, do I get the already-slightly-derogatory white feminism? I just don’t know. Humdiddlydum.
Secondly, as a female-bodied person, of whatever ethnic background-it-doesn’t-matter, in this world we live in, the very notion of feminism dividing IN ANY WAY strikes dread and revulsion into my black little heart. Why are we dividing in this cause? When we have come so far, and still have so far to go, why now are creating a conversation wherein we bite at each others’ throats?
Yes, I very much recognize the importance of racial, ethnic, and national identity, even in feminism, it assuredly has a place...but don’t divide yourselves, ladies and gents. Don’t divide and be conquered.
