People have this idea in their head about purebreds. But over the years of crossbreeding and selective breeding, animals have changed drastically. Here's a quick look of what some dogs used to look like 100 years ago and some of the health issues that have surfaced due to their “improvements”.
The English bulldog has been bred to be bigger and bulkier. They now suffer from a huge array of health problems. Their proportions make it difficult to mate and give birth without medical assistance.
Pugs have now developed high blood pressure, low oxygenation because of poor breathing, and skin dermatitis due to skin rolls.
St Bernards used to be working dogs but over the years have developed a much thicker coat of fur and abundant skin. St Bernards today cannot be used as working dogs as they overheat too quickly and are now prone to many diseases such as stockard's paralysis and hemophilia.
The point is that breeders have now screwed with nature and created more problems for specific breeds. One breed should not be desirable over another. Equality for all. A mix should be loved the same as a pure.
