When she was old enough, Ham had gotten the timer installed. She was always up on the newest gadgets, everything, and she knew it'd be amazing, she wouldn't have to worry about romance, could focus on science, on her work, school, wouldn't have to muck about. It'd be so easy.

She didn't expect so many years to go by. The counter counting down slowly. The closer it got to zero, the more panicked she'd become. She buried further in work, figured if she never left, it'd never reach zero. Met less people, did less things. She covered up her timer, wrapped her arm so she wouldn't have to see it, but too scared to have it removed.

Work was easy, science. Exciting. But love ... she didn't know anything about it.

She didn't expect to fall in love with a stray pup. Much less take him in, raise him, take him for runs, walks, to play in the park.

And she definitely expect to lose the leash and have to go running after Sy in the park, have him meet up with another dog, and a man dressed all in black.

"Oh thank you! Thank you for stopping him, I didn't mean to lose the leash, Sy's fast!"

She looked up at him and smiled, before hearing the beeping.

Her timer was beeping ...

Ham was busying herself in the kitchen, stirring her pot of chili. She froze on the spot, before turning. She peeked her head out into the living room, before waving softly, "... Hi Ares."
