Doodle returned for a visit. Toby was very excited to see his mother again and the two played all night long and into the morning.
The first one to respond to Carissa’s cries was actually Milo. The ghostly kitty had appeared for a visit that night. It was almost like his visit was fated as his would now watch his old friend join him in the beyond.
Riya and Sam burst through the front door next. Riya moved to join Carissa and comfort Toby while Sam waited at the top of the stairs. Ethan only just joined to see what the commotion was about as Doodle’s spirit was lifted from her.
Winter passed by and into Spring with little to say for the Carpenter household. The family actively continued to work on moving forward with their lives from their heartbreak while continuing their work and schooling. Some days were better than others.
On the days where it was hard, Sam and Riya found that a leisurely walk with the dogs helped them to work through it. The added greenery that Spring brought with it was a welcome addition. Of course, being on an island with ready views of the ocean wasn’t half-bad, either.
Doodle and Toby were let out one night to do their business. Doodle got to the bottom of the steps and went no further. She was tired and laid down, but she didn’t get back up. Carissa was returning home from work as the Specter of Death appeared to take her.
“Oh no!” Carissa cried. “Sam! Riya! Doodle’s gone!” As she started to cry Toby circled around his mom, tail and ears limp as he knew very well what was happening.
Sage took Doodle upstairs and gave her a thorough exam. The old dog’s affliction would definitely require a full clinic’s services, but that would have to wait until morning. For now she could make Doodle comfortable and help level out her temperature.
Ethan had been invited to hang out with Diana in town. Since Doodle was antsy he decided to take her along for a nice day out.
Doodle was happy to see her mate again, especially as she had felt that Milo would be passing soon. It cheered her up, and for his part Rocco was very excited to see her, too.
“Oh, my poor girl,” Sage lamented. “You’re positively miserable, aren’t you?” She rubbed Doodle comfortingly behind her ears. Doodle leaned in to Sage’s left hand, beckoning her to rub behind her right ear a little harder. Sage obliged, drawing out a little whine from her old friend.
“Alright you, follow me,” Sage said as she stood. She patted her leg, signalling Doodle to follow her up the stairs. Doodle whined again but obeyed.
