You moved in with your beau?!?!?! How exciting! Congrats, that’s the start of a fun new chapter in your life! Glad that you and yours are well; and I totally get trying to avoid the “doom surfing,” everything is so gloomy these days, we gotta do what we gotta do for our mental health.
///
Absolutely! There’s this war within myself: do I keep up to date with what’s going on in the world or do I ignore it for the sake of my mental health?
And you know what? Your mental health is far, far more important. You’re not going to help anyone if you’re drowning in your own depression. The world is going to be here tomorrow, and the next day. Take care of yourself first and foremost, always.
There’re some verses in the Bible I’ve always loved. Paraphrased, it goes:
“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” - Jesus, at some point, somewhen.
Canon Jesus was a pretty cool dude, whether you subscribe to that belief system or not. Smart guy.
