i can't help but wish for a normal life. @doomdays
normalcy is something foreign to people like mikayla, so she hardly allows herself to entertain the thought of it. even before finding out what she was, she doubts her childhood was considered normal — or at least, she hopes not, for the sake of others. but she can still understand what sam means, and for once, she feels sympathetic, which is rare for her, often lacking the ability to put herself in anyone else's position long enough to care. “i know.” her words aren't soft, necessarily, but they lack their usual hard edge, which is as close to comfort as she's capable of. “i'm sorry people suck.” mikayla does what she can to help, lashing out at anyone that badmouths her, but she knows she can't fight everyone, no matter how tempting the thought is.
