Doom (2016) Argent tower on Mars draws energy from hell in order to solve an energy crisis on earth. You take on the role of an unnamed space marine in order to close the gates of hell and destroy every monster in sight! This game is crazy, literally from the first level until the last you’re blasting the living daylights out of everything! It’s frenetic and full of life, and manages to keep it that way consistently for the entirety of the game. Whilst not being very long, it manages to cram a lot in, with plenty of collectible mini-figs, elite armour upgrades, weapon mods, data logs and more. It has a decent replay-ability similar to Wolfenstein, which is to be expected. The game also plays like Wolfenstein in its first person blast-a-thon. It’s an intense and a bloody good time! Literally! It’s full of gore, from blasting holes in demons with shotguns, to pulverising them with energy weapons, and slicing them in two with a chainsaw, it’s not for the feint hearted! The soundtrack is a pulse racing heavy metal mashup that reminded me slightly of Splatterhouse on the PS3. Its full of heavy rifts and pulsating guitars that really set the tone for the level you’re in. The best thing about Doom is that it’s fun. It doesn’t take itself too serious and it allows you to delve into a demonic world and basically fuck shit up. The loading screens between chapters help break things up and explain the story, which allows you to go crazy in the missions without worrying too much about what’s going on which helps you relax and enjoy the game. The guns are cool, around about 9 guns that all wield different strengths and weaknesses, personally I think a lot of the game is spent at close quarters and the Shotgun will be your main port of call, but there’s plenty to choose from and each offer their own means of destruction and work well in doing so! Overall, Doom is a brilliant example of fun gaming. Hours on end of crazy gunfights claiming the souls of 100s of demonic entities.
