Gloom Leaders and Doomslop
This phenomenon on the internet of negative content is just not fun. I'm sorry, but hearing about the problems in the world is not fun. Controversial I know. I understand why it's important to know that these things are happening, but one thing that people who make Doomslop do is that they don't give examples on how we can help, or change things, or just make a difference.
But what is Doomslop? Doomslop is content that always goes towards the negative and never provides any solution. It's just content to make you sad and depressed.
And I'll admit, I've been guilty of this. I've made Doomslop in the past on other websites. But I realized that I was just being negative when I could try and find things to be positive even in this world that we live in.
The problem with Doomslop and gloom Leaders that I have is that they get millions of views for just pointing out the problem, and nothing else. I know some things don't have a clear solution, but we should be working together to try and find that solution. Some things they talk about do have solutions, but they don't talk about the solutions or what the average person can do to help.
This causes depression and a feeling like no one can do anything about these issues, when we can sometimes. It hurts me to see people feel like they can't do anything to help others, when sometimes, the situation has a clear way to help.
I've been watching Kal aka funky frog bait for a while now, and I feel that their content has turned into doomslop, because I have a hard time finding any part of the video where they tell us what we can do to help or change the situation. I have a feeling that this isn't their intention, but it's disheartening when they point out a problem and don't give a solution to it, even when there is one that other YouTubers who are talking about the same problem, do give ways to help.
I just wish there was more positivity on the internet. And I realize that my past two posts and even this one are a bit of Doomslop. But here's the solution I'm going to give for the Doomslop problem. Ask in the comments what we can do to help, or disengage with the content entirely. When they don't get views, they realize they need to change their content. And if positive videos or videos give solutions or recognize that there is no clear solution and we need to work together to figure this out, I feel like Doomslop will start to falter and fall into obscurity.
I don't like that YouTube promotes negative videos more than positive ones, but what I've done and what you can do is unsubscribe and go to the three dots in the corner of a video and press the button saying do not recommend this content or channel.
I want Doomslop to slow down, but this is gonna take a community effort to get rid of, so if you can, try and do these things. Ask for solutions, block the videos/content creators and give channels who do the right thing or make positive content more views. It helps change the landscape when you interact. It helps people realize that they didn't give any solution and just made a depressing video.
If you want to see more positive content, I recommend Jen aka the good news girl. She posts something positive everyday and her videos make my day a lot better. She has a pretty strong community and I think if we teach the algorithm and YouTubers that's just wallowing in sadness is not good, and making change or at least trying to is a lot better.
Have a good day everyone and remember, don't let the algorithm determine you and what you see, search out what is good for you and everyone around you.
