DOROHEDORO HOT-TAKES BEGIN HERE!
Let's start with the title~ (Essay incoming)
One of the greatest personal stories I have in regards to trying to feel out what the series was about is when I read the title and thought: "Why is it called that?"
Instead of looking it up, I like to try and figure these kinds of things out because you never really know with anime/manga titles and mysteries are fun to crack, aye? Some titles are names of characters, some are plot points, some are just nonsense, and some are random words from other languages to help describe the series. So what is "Dorohedoro"?
Well it turns out there was a footnote in a scanlation that explained the title translates literally to "Mud and Sludge," and in the context of the later portion of the series that title makes perfect sense. Most fans of the Dorohedoro are probably familiar with that bit, and even of you're not a manga reader the dystopian setting of "The Hole" and the absolute cluster-fluff of violence and gore that pervades it earns it this gritty title.
But the essay doesn't stop there. Why? Because I decided to think that "Dorohedoro" sounded like a nonsense title and picked out a series of words I thought might be represented in it. Ironically, while I was completely off the mark, it turns out the wording I got out of it somehow came across as still relevant to some of the series imagery and themes. Therefore, posts on this blog will also tagged with that uninformed interpretation:
"DOOR, HEAD, DOOR"
