Scotty Zwang and Duane Trucks to Drum for Umphrey’s McGee in Wake of Kris Myers’ Resignation

Scotty Zwang will drum for Umphrey’s McGee for the rest of 2025, save for May 29-June 1, when Duane Trucks mans the kit.

The announcement comes a day after Kris Myers resigned his 22-year tenure with the group, saying: “We collectively felt it was time for me to pursue other elements of my musical creativity that have been calling to me.”

Zwang, of Dopapod, will begin his tenure May 22-25. He’ll temporarily cede to Widespread Panic’s Trucks before covering the balance of the year.

“Playing with Duane is always an honor and our time connecting with Scotty last fall uncovered something special - an intangible spark we’re excited to explore further,” Umphrey’s said in a statement.

“We’re energized by what’s to come and can’t wait to share the journey with you.”

The band didn’t say whether Zwang’s membership will be permanent.

Dopapod to go on Indefinite Hiatus Starting in 2025

- “The price we have paid mentally, financially, physically and otherwise can no longer be ignored,” band says

After 16 years together, Dopapod will go their separate ways and on indefinite hiatus beginning in 2025.

That means “no … touring, recording or writing for the foreseeable future,” the group said in a statement.

Despite a “treasure trove of life and learning experiences, … the price we have paid mentally, financially, physically and otherwise can no longer be ignored,” the band said.

“We feel deep down in our guts and our hearts that this is the best possible thing not for the band, but for four dudes who truly love each other and want the best for each other.”

Dopapod has tour dates scheduled through November with more on the way, “so come see us while you can,” they said.

“The touring life has never been easy and it seems to be getting more difficult,” Dopapod said. “We send our love to all the artists/crew that put so much of their heart and soul into making live music possible.”

George's recommendations: Love that guy <3 although I didn't record everything I listened to :/ [Dopapod] "I Saw Live Dopapod, Evil Was I" : I listened to this whole album several times in high school, and even years later it holds up incredibly well as both an album and a live set. [Nora Brown] "Sidetrack my Engine" : A masterclass of a very specific mournful subgenre of banjo playing. [Sevish] "Big Sway" : I'd like to relisten with proper audio fidelity and attention, but this felt much more relaxed than "Harmony Hacker." [Nora Brown] "Cinnamon Tree" : "Cumberland Gap" included, instant classic.
