The creative industry is notoriously known for being difficult to break into. For the queer black community, it may feel as though it’s an unspoken truth that glass ceilings are omnipresent. Feelings of invalidation, tokenism and the weight that comes with being a black creative are also not uncommon. 2019 Study by Williams College revealed that only 1.2% of artworks in major US Museums are made by Black artists, and that fewer than 1% are made by Black womxn or queer Black artists. Queer individuals are the heartbeat of the arts community. Painters, videographers, photographers, collage makers, and other artists help us see ourselves and one another. The work of these creators is worthy of attention and consideration year-round TAP & DISCOVER 🔴 🟡 🟢 .
