Okay so, I don't want to rant about this for too long - because if I rant about everything the German commentators for Olympic figure skating say we'll be here all day - but I'm currently catching up on the Rhythm Dance and I just want to say that these two commentators - Petra Bindl and Kati Winkler - aren't any better than Daniel Weiss either (I at least find their voices less annoying/aggressive, but the content of what they say isn't any better).
So first of all they keep praising Fournier Beaudry/Cizeron... enough said. (And they curiously never mention how this partnership came to be or what exactly her former skating partner was banned for... 🤔They mentioned that he's banned, but not what for...)
(Also this is a topic for a different post, but as a Rika-stan the more I learn about that "famous Ice Dance School in Montreal" the more I want her to be anywhere but there, it really doesn't seem like a safe environment...)
During the team event they also said some stuff about how "Ice Dance Pairs of course don't have to actually be couples, they just have to be able to pretend to be"... uhm... Ice Dance, you're not beating the "this is the most aggressively heterosexual category" allegations, sorry. (Same-gender Ice Dance when???)
And then when they were introducing Davis/Smolkin, they mentioned Diana's mother Eteri Tutberidze, and Petra Bindl said some stuff about how "Everyone keeps calling her a scandal-coach because they only remember the Valieva doping incident, but they forget she also coached Olympic champions like Zagitova and Shcherbakova."
And phew... woman, we didn't forget she coached those people, we were calling out her abusive coaching methods back then as well! Also, are they still expecting us to believe that Eteri only doped up one child and not the others? Is that still the story we're going with, that the aforementioned "Olympic champions" weren't totally doped as well? And someone explain to me again how Valieva got (rightfully, to be clear!) banned from skating, but Eteri didn't also get a lifetime ban from coaching??? Why is she allowed to be here again???
(also obligatory mention that Zagitova, Valieva, and Trusova are Putin-supporters - I don't know if the others are as well - so even without the doping you really shouldn't support them)
anyway, enough, I'll try to ignore their commentary from now, I just quickly needed to make this vent post
