A Sweet Wrongdoing
“Dorian, will you come here please?” His Mother said in an impatient and annoyed tone. Dorian sighed softly and very slowly made his way to his Mother, fear coursing through his veins as he ran through all the things he could have done to illicit that tone from her. He shuddered softly when he saw the chocolate bar wrapper that she was holding in her perfectly manicured hand. “What have I told you about snacking Dorian?” She said, her accent getting stronger by the second as she got more and more annoyed with her son.
“I was hungry Mama.” He said, looking down sheepishly. He knew what he did was wrong but it has tasted so good and he had been so hungry. He had only meant to have one bite, but instead he had wolfed down the entire bar. It was something that he almost never did, but he had a shoot tomorrow and he had been eating so little to be ready for it. He knew that his Mother would never accept that excuse, but Dorian had found that lying only made things worse. It was better to just tell the truth and suffer the consequences. After all, he deserved them. He had done something wrong and he knew it.
“I hope you enjoyed it.” She said, her tone downright bone chilling now. “Because you won’t be having dinner tonight. You have completely ruined your calorie count Dorian. Nobody wants a chubby model. Do you think you will continue to get work if you keep pulling this shit? You will not! I have sacrificed everything for you Dorian. I have completely derailed my marriage so that you could have this career. And for what? So you can throw it away to have a taste of chocolate.” She shook her head and looked away from the young boy. “I can’t look at you right now.” She said sharply. “I am so very disappointed in you. You are such a selfish little boy. I don’t know how I could have gone so wrong.”
Dorian said nothing throughout her speech, he knew it was better not to interrupt her when she was talking. He also knew that it was better to just apologize for his wrong doing and hang his head in shame. No amount of justification would make her less mad at him. He just needed to do better next time. He looked up at her, his hazel eyes a dull steel grey that meant he was feeling upset. “I will do better Mama.” He said earnestly. “And for the most part he did. After some time, she didn’t have to chastise him anymore because he chastised himself. Sometimes he could still hear his Mother’s voice in his head when he tried to indulge in a treat.
