The fact that Lord Henry is in his mid 20s adds a lot of depth to his arrogance, in my opinion.

Dorian sees him as this Worldly Adult, when in reality he's just as naive as Dorian. Poor Basil knows what's going to happen, because he's seen it before. But there isn't anything he can do to stop Henry except leave him. But he can't do that either. They're the same age and he's equally entranced by the bullshit. It's an artform, and he's an artist.

The fact that Dorian sees the world in complete ultimatums- Save by another or abandoned, love or boring- is so indicative of his immaturity. He can’t grasp the concept that perhaps the damsel can save himself (in this case), or perhaps the danger was brought on by himself. To him, the self is innocent because that is what he was told he was.
