OMG YES. And of course, Bix never learns. Laxus probably just sits there every year shaking his head at all of them. 

Halloween is their favourite event. No one has time for Christmas. 

They probably have a tradition where they all just sit up getting drunk and eating way too much candy and sugary things too (y’know, after Freed has had his fun and after him and Bix have teased Ever all day). They probably all gang up on Laxus at the end of the night too... They’re still trying to scare him but it never works.

What is your understanding of Bickslow's magic? :o I've always wondered about his magic, and I'm curious about your take of it

oh oh oh oh oh oh. oh yes. now this is a good question. I’m not sure I’ll be able to answer it in a logical sense, but oh well. I hope my rambling is somewhat interesting.

Firstly, it’s just completely badass. It was confirmed to be black magic in the first part of the Alvarez arc, and by definition, black magic is usually “forbidden” since it’s to do with manipulating and controlling human lives. And honestly, that’s just amazing and it makes me love him even more than I already do tbh. Anyway, secondly... The way I understand it (and I’m biased because I’ve written like a dozen different backstories for him/have his magic come up somewhere in almost all of my canon-au fics), is that it’s something that he does have control over. Not completely, but at least for the most part. 

There’s a part at the end of the Laxus filler episode (I think it’s called like The Thunder Man or something weird) where Bickslow and the rest of the Raijinshuu are talking to Lucy and Natsu about the job, and he’s not wearing his visor. Any time Bickslow is seen without it in the manga and anime, he’s using his magic to some extent - whether to control someone’s soul, or to just see them (which is in another filler episode/mini arc). But in this particular scene, he wasn’t, so the way I interpreted it, was that his visor is more of a safety thing. Like I said above, I headcanon that he actually has control over his Figure Eyes, so I see the visor as a backup just in case he does lose it for whatever reason (which, in the way I’ve written him, can be anything from stress to pain). Of course though, since a lot of my stories do involve children, I also headcanon that his magic is strictly passed on through genetics. I don’t think Seith magic would be something you can just learn for the sake of it (like Celestial magic, for example). It’s probably something you’re born with, and it manifests at some point and then it’s just a matter of controlling it and mastering it. 

On another note though, since Bickslow’s magic is black magic, and most likely “forbidden” in nature, I imagine it’s something he’s taken a long time to be proud of having? If he hasn’t killed people at some point, then I’d be surprised. He’s more than capable of it and he’d probably, at some point, do it without really batting an eye. So, for the most part, I like to think that Bickslow likes to avoid using some parts of his magic as much as possible. He probably likes to rely on the babies, and then using his eyes is just a last resort. I think that’s pretty canon, though.  

Anyway. I don’t know. I just find his magic really interesting. I also know that it’s something that’s definitely open for interpretation. I know that @gemnika has his magic closely associated with healing magic (or something along those lines) in one of her stories, and that was an idea that I’d never really considered before but it’s actually kind of great. (Basically this is just me covering my ass and saying that my understanding/headcanons about his magic are not canon or correct. It’s my interpretation of it, and it’s the way I like writing his magic.) 

But thank you for the question! It was interesting to kind of write it all out, even if none of it made any sense.
