Rain | Malon & Link
The sun was setting fast and the clouds that muddled the sky raced to stamp out the remaining light that touched the islands of New Hyrule. Malon paused the rhythmic drumming of hammer on fence and squinted at the orange horizon, a soft grin settling on her lips. The air smelled wet and earthy as the wind carried the scent of incoming rain across the pasture of the ranch. It seemed that, ever since the recent events within the capital, she could no longer keep herself from returning to her home in the East District whenever she had the time to do so. Being home felt right—hell, it was a relief as opposed to the tension that was building at the castle.
Malon shook her head and thoughts of the castle fell away with the motion as she returned to her task at hand. Besides, she had had other reasons to visit lately. Talon had started accusing Malon of finding things to fix as an excuse to come home— he had even hinted at the possibility that she was visiting to see a certain someone.
Maybe.
She’d managed to dance around the topic just enough to appease him, but she thought it might be only a matter of time before her father would catch the two farmhands sucking face behind the stables whenever they got the chance. As she hammered away at the iron nails of the corral she glanced up at the horizon, scanning briefly as her mind wandered. She hadn’t seen him yet today, Talon had managed to keep them busy— Malon suspected on purpose— always stealing one of them away whenever they passed in the hallway or while working. Passing hello’s like he was just another ranch hand instead of her--
The hammer hit her thumb, sending a jolt of pain to run up to her elbow. She swore loudly and sucked on the sore digit with a scowl, her cheeks flushing with heat.
