Swallows Cottage, Shitterton. Dorset.
Thatched cottage in dreamy hamlet with stream down the road that you can paddle in. Cottage backs onto rolling fields with miles of walks and was perfect for our toddler. She loved the enclosed garden and I loved the sunny kitchen and cosy sofa for the colder days. Kitchen is definitely the heart of the cottage.
More basic than the other Airbnb’s we have stayed in but had everything you need and felt instantly at home. The village is super cute - despite its unfortunate name...You can have fun though finding nearby ‘Butt Lane’, ‘Sitterton’ and ‘Piddle River’ (someone was having a laugh right?!).
Surrounding coast is absolutely stunning with Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door/Man of War (pictured) being your closest coast and both have pubs, cafes and playparks etc next to them. If you brave the walk down to Durdle with a toddler then definitely take a rucksack for them to go in - there’s a serious drop down there!!
Weymouth is also nearby along with Bournemouth if you want more of a seaside town experience. Beautiful Poole is definitely the one to go to if you have limited time though, if you park at Poole harbour there is a park/marina area nearby with a miniature train and the main harbour backs onto Shore Road beach. We took the chain ferry from Sandbanks over to Studland which is one of the most beautiful bits of coast and is a nature reserve (National Trust owned). Nudist area further along for those inclined. Old harry rocks totally worth the walk too from Studland village but same applies with little ones!
Core Castle near Studland is also worth a visit (pictured).
Sleeps 5. Three singles, one double. Two rooms.
