Minchinhampton, Cotswolds nr. Stroud - sleeps 5

Beautiful period property with amazing features and outside space. In a sleepy, lovely town surrounded by beautiful walks. The Crown pub was one of my favourite pubs I’ve been to. So so cosy and stunning food. The chip shop a few doors down was voted on of the Top 20 in the country too and lived up to its name (even has a veggie Halloumi option!).

Also went to great pub at the bottom of the hull - about half a hour walk. Serving pies since forever! Half pie and half cauliflower cheese! We had the mini & left some! So good.

Need to go back and walk more in the sunshine.

Peak District

Lavender cottage. Peak District. Sleeps 5.

Lovely little cottage with beautiful views, comfy beds and a wood burner (in walking distance to the pub!). Did my back in so couldn’t walk as far as we’d hoped so we took a slow walk along the Monsal Trail and refreshments in the wonderful cafe along that route (pictured). Bakewell is a lovely village to look around. We picked up a famous Bakewell Pudding there.

Lovely pit stop at a cosy, welcoming pub on the way back - The Packhorse Inn.

Nice local pub dinner too in the Church Inn pub just up the road (take a torch!).

Must return. So much more to see & walks to do.

Gorgeous, cosy Pencuke Farm near Bude, Cornwall.

Such a high standard of interiors. Everything brand new and such a gorgeous place to be at a cold rainy time of year. Loved the Christmas tree touch too to make us feel even more festive! The pics don’t do the place justice. Massive upstairs with such comfy beds. The bunk beds big enough for adults too.

Lovely games room and alpacas and animals on site. Plus loved the honesty shop!

Also a campsite and sheperds hut on site, so the kind of place you could go with lots of friends and all hire different spaces.

Had a lovely fish lunch down at Crackington Haven too in the Coombe Barton Inn. Lovely Widemouth and Bude nearby.

Would definitely visit again!

The Loft, Cousens Farm. Nr Beesands, Devon - sleeps 2

Beautiful part of the world and a lovely little restful, private spot to spend the night. They also have The Cottage too with its own hot tub so you could go with a bigger party too.

So many treats left for us which was a real joy after Covid. Amazing hot tub and views. Such lovely hosts and lots of tips. We had lunch at the local pub at Beesands but there is also a good takeaway there The Britannia.

Beautiful walks from and to the lighthouse at Start Point. Our host also recommended Gara Rock and we know of an amazing hotel there too.

Dittisham, South Hams, Devon. Sleeps 4 (one bed, one sofa bed).

Muggles End. Mawnan Smith, nr Falmouth - sleeps 6

Such a dreamy cottage with a lovely enclosed garden with views of the Cornish hills for both puppy and kids to run free in. Lovely touches left by the hosts George, Lucy and Gordon. Cream tea and wine very much appreciated! Games for kids and adults, candles for the lovely bath, tumble dryer, BBQ, outdoor heater & more. So clean too, which was great for our first post-Covid trip!

Muggles End is set in the tiny village of Mawnan Smith, just around the coast from Falmouth, with pub a two min walk up the hill (result). Gorgeous beaches nearby including Helford Passage, Saxon, Durgan and Maenporth. Such clear water.

Went to Trelissick gardens on the way which is excellent for dogs and also has a little beach (National Trust). Plus there is Trebah and Glendurgan gardens. We took the King Harry ferry which was a lovely thing to do for kids too.

Recommend the pub down at Helford Passage. Great food.

Such a beautiful part of the world. Will return!

Lovely family-run site - Quantock Camping nestled amongst the Quantock hills & just an hour from Bristol.

My daughter and I stayed in the Owl Sheperd’s Hut, which has two other cabins next to it, so a group could go. There are also caravan pitches and a small area for tents on site. Lovely facilities and safe for families, without being overrun with kids and noise.

Loads of very tame chickens kept my daughter amused. So many beautiful places to explore around the campsite, including Kilve Bay (pictured) and the Quantock hills - just in front of us. Dunster Castle also very much worth a visit (National Trust) with lovely views and streams to paddle in.

Hut slept two and had everything you need. Loved the outdoor al fresco showers too!

Will definitely return with friends and family.

Steps Barn at Cerne Abbas - sleeps 5

This stylish barn was the perfect post-Covid getaway! As parents, we hadn’t had a lie in for 15 months and this was a dreamy, quiet space surrounded by many, many decent pubs for a lovely lunch and amazing walks (a very wet slippy one in our case!) - including to the famous Cerne Abbas giant. We had some proper cheek aching laughs here, helped by how relaxing the space was and there was no need to drive anywhere (Prosecco was flowing!). Fab to also see that the Cerne Abbas brewery was about 100m from our doorstep. An amazing home-grown brewery with some outdoor space to sit and chill in.

Not far from the Dorset coast too if you had longer. Loads in the house was available to buy from many local producers and artists too. No television meant it was the perfect place to unwind and chat away for hours.

Would return!

Malmesbury Cottage - sleeps 4.

We had a quick night away during Covid-19 for a much-needed change of scene (when restrictions were lifted!). St Michael’s Cottage was a lovely getaway. It is an 18th-century hideaway, located in the heart of the medieval town of Malmesbury. Formerly part of the church counting house, the cottage is now a comfortable and well-appointed self catering holiday home. The view from the bedroom window seat is - as you can see - just amazing!

The town is right on the doorstep & it is right next to the Abbey House and Gardens which had a sculpture trail and was just stunning. Such a beautiful gardens which go down into the valley where there is a river you can cross. Our daughter loved it.

The cafe in the Abbey provided much needed refreshments when everything was shut and we appreciated how welcoming they were!

Expensive but definitely worth it.

Wye Glamping

Wye Glamping 

This is a stunning corner of the earth in Wales. With the mountains beyond that you can stare at from the window of the Cabin or from the deck chair this really is a special place to stay. The river & swing behind provides endless opportunity for play and if that isn’t enough Wye Glamping is well located for access to many activites including pony trekking, canoeing and walking. It is about 4 miles from Hay on Wye and 10 miles from Brecon, both picturesque market towns, perfect for an afternoon’s mooch! We did canoeing down the River Wye to Hay on Wye and this was approx 5miles and took us about 2 hours. We took our 5 year old and she liked it but it wouldn’t be suitable for any younger. Such stunning scenery down the River Wye so would recommend to get out if you can. Passing a lovely beach (last pic) to have a paddle / play / swim on.

The Cabin includes everytthing you could possibly want including kitchen (with lovely welcome box of goodies), a fire pit, woodburner inside and compost toilet! 

We went in October and it wasn’t too cold at all with the woodburner. The Cabin is stunning inside and really made to such a high standard. We had our daughter on the day bed too.

Highly recommend and will return!

Montecute

Stonehenge - Nr Salisbury, Wiltshire 

Found this gem last minute and as it is off-peak it had good check-in and check-out times so made it worthwhile for a weekend. It was a stunning spot about five mins drive from Stonehenge and is situated on the grounds of a polo club (posh!). We are told you can also walk from the cottage to Stonehenge too (45 mins) and it’s very flat so would be a great walk.

The polo bit meant there were horses EVERYWHERE including outside the kitchen window so our daughter was in her element. You could also go and watch a match which happens each morning on the weekends.

We checked in and checked out with a lock box and didn’t get to meet the owners but we were fine with that! They left an amazing amount of things for us including milk, bread chocolate, condiments and coffee etc. Was really kind of them. I see why they are superhosts!

The bed was huge and it had very stylish interiors (although unsure about the real zebra rug!). The roaring fire was very much needed for a visit in December and we had fun with their board games in front of it.

Couldn’t fault it. Our daughter has already asked if we can go back.

Yattendon - Berkshire (Nr Newbury)

Lovely room on an estate in beautiful countryside. We met half-way (Bristol and London) so this spot was perfect for that.

Gorgeous beds and cosy room with large arch window overlooking fields. It was perfect for a stay in February. Such lovely pubs in walking distance too. Thoroughly recommend.

Sandbanks - Dorset

We tried out this party pad in Sandbanks out of season which worked out pretty cheap in the end for 7 of us. I ended up booking direct (not via Airbnb) and saved £120 - good tip to always try that if they are run by an agent. 

The flat is sandwiched between Shore Road beach and Poole Harbour. Great for kite surfing and windsurfing if the weather plays ball. Beach looks across to Old Harry and Studland Bay - both of which I really recommend visiting.

We had 4 Rooms and most were en suite too. Good living space, really smart and also had a pool table, darts board and video games which helped with the crappy weather!

Had a crazy walk in sleet, wind and rain to explore the area (& find The Redkanpps house!) and took shelter in the Harbour Heights Hotel, Sandbanks. Open to all...even drowned rats!

The next day was much nicer and we took a stroll to Branksome Chine for some seriously good cake in the sunshine. Lovely flat beach and you can walk all the way to Bournemouth and beyond. Great for runners and kids especially.

Had hoped to get to the Jurassic Coast and show them Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door but the weather didn’t play ball.

You always need to leave something for next time thought right!

Teffont - Nr Salisbury, Wiltshire

Amazing overnight stay in this cosy garden studio in the Conservation Area in the Nadder Valley close to the source of the River Teff. Teffont is small village in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is characterised by stone and thatched houses and rolling downland. It is a beautiful place to be. When I arrived there was a Llama loose in the road put it that way!

The main plus about this place, aside from the gorgeous interiors, was the underfloor heating. Perfect place to be in autumn when raining outside and you have nowhere to be! Recommend it for a relaxing night away. 

We did a 3mile (ish) walk from the village of Fonthill Bishop around a stunning lake and through a valley. Main tip is to book into one fo the many pubs for lunch before you go. They are lovely and always booked up!
