Fellow BVB fans, we all give our boys a lot of love, but we often ignore the amazing BVB ladies who play handball. That ought to change. So here is a little guide on Borussia Dortmund's handball team.

BVB handball competes in the Handball Bundesliga Frauen (HBF), the top league for women’s handball in Germany, and in the DHB-Pokal. Currently they are not in any European competitions, but they could qualify for the EHF Champions League, the EHF Cup, or the EHF Cup Winners' Cup. The league system, domestic cup, and European competitions work similarly to their counterparts in football.

HANDBALL BASICS

Handball is an extremely fast-paced game. There are a lot more goals per match than there are in football. An average match usually has around 50 goals in total. Each team has seven players, one goalkeeper and six field players. Watching a game will teach the rules better than me explaining them, so here is the women’s handball final from the 2012 Olympics.
