she wishes she could bottle up this day, with its beautiful sunshine and clear blue sky. it’s not often they get so much time to themselves, now they’re grown, responsibilities weighing them down like rocks in their pockets, and perhaps all they’ve done is go for a walk arm in arm, only to settle here by the stream, but aoife can’t believe anything to be a waste when she’s done it with faith. don’t they deserve some time to just breathe? aoife can feel the tension disappearing, to be washed away by the water. maybe it won’t last, but for now she’s going to enjoy it.
❝ you must have a lot of love, ❞ she murmurs, looking up from the pile of daisies she’s stringing into a crown and giving faith the softest, fondest smile. how can she do anything else? faith always makes her smile. she’s as bright as the sun. ❝ i love you too. ❞
“mal!” she was ecstatic to see him, and making no attempt to hide that fact. he’d been away on another hunt, and she’d missed him desperately, feeling his absence in every room. “i thought you weren’t due back until tomorrow.”

❝ i missed moments like this more than anything. ❞ it is just the two of them, the setting sun bathing the room in warm light; faith looks beautiful in it, aoife thinks, and for a moment she has to lean against her just to be sure that she’s really here. how can she be? a miracle. that’s how it feels to have her back, to be living alongside her once more. life can do a lot of things. it can tear a person down and toss them to the wind, but she and faith? they’ll always find a way. ❝ how’d i ever cope without being near you? ❞
@doshine / faith.
she is curled up on faith’s bed, looking one kind word away from bursting into tears. that she hasn’t yet is probably something of a miracle. aoife reckons she’d been waiting for faith, somehow. ( sophie had taken one look at aoife’s face and ordered her to lie down, insisting that she and the nanny would look after flora ‘til she’s better. aoife’s never been more grateful for a lack of questions. ) ❝ your ma wrote to me, ❞ she says, holding the letter out so faith can read for herself. mrs fraser’s blessedly direct manner lays out the facts so that even aoife, unable to see quite clearly by the end, could read them: ewan grant, dead. prison.
aoife’s lip wobbles. ❝ she-she thought i’d not hear otherwise. i read it right, aye? he’s really--- ❞

have i mentioned lately how much i love rob n marian.
“Thank you, for coming here.” It must’ve taken a lot for the Nora to leave the Sacred Land, let alone travel all the way to Meridian just to defend the place so many of them suffered during the Red Raids. “I know it wasn’t easy, but we couldn’t have done it without your help.”
