top 5 pieces of media that make you think "what a waste of a good plot/character/setting/etc"?

Oh man, time for some hot takes apparently! Which, I could fill this list entirely with shows that could not live up to their first seasons or even first episodes, but I'll try to branch out a little more.

Unfortunately this is my primary feeling about Merlin, after all these years. It was such a good concept! They just didn't know what was most interesting about it or how to grow the characters in ways that kept it consistent in tone and fun to watch.

STAR WARS SEQUEL TRILOGY. "The Force Awakens" filled me with so much joy and then. the rest of it sure did happen. What do you MEAN you have Finn and Rey and Poe and THAT is what you do with them. And then you add Rose, a shining beacon in a second movie I overall didn't love, and you WASTE her???

I just recently read "A Pale Light in the Black" by K.B. Wagers and it had some good moments but given I started reading it hoping for a. space rescues and b. focus on the Boarding Games that feature majorly in the summary, but there wasn't enough of either for my taste, and particularly the latter really only focused on hand to hand matches, the least interesting part of the concept.

Okay now I am going to allow myself to shout out Teen Wolf, which got wildly unfocused and weird and kept making interesting character dynamics and then abandoning them. (I'm going to be mad about Erica Reyes forever, perhaps.)

I read "The Stars Too Fondly" by Emily Hamilton earlier this year and am still thinking about how it's a good concept that needed either more space or a different medium to thrive, it just missed the mark for me in ways I wish it hadn't.

out of curiosity, what do you mean that Janus is being "marinated" by Virgil and Remus in your impostor AU? are they trying to turn him into another imposter or are they just taking advantage of his willful denial?

He can't become an impostor impostor, even if his lack of doing tasks are helping them in a way XD

He has no idea/doesn't believe that there are impostors onboard. In his opinion Thomas just bought a really shitty space ship that keeps malfunctioning, as well as things needing some better upkeep because they keep breaking.

Remus just enjoys messing with the others and seeming like a good bean whenever Janus is near, he's like the most good bean ever to exist! he will fake tasks so good!

Virgil uses Janus's denial and obliviousness to his advantage to get away with blatant impostor stuff, like vent hopping for example, he just have to say he's an engineer and Janus will believe him.

Oh haha. God, no. DLB!Remus is very... "wary" (read: jealous) of Virgil because of the attention Janus gives him. Green is Remus' color. Remus will see Virgil dyeing his hair green (at Janus' demand, actually) as a threat, something like Virgil trying to take his place (that sentiment is the entire reason Remus hates Virgil, because they're both very normal about Janus and want his attention a normal amount. Obviously.)

also do you mean that CPR doesn't work on the fae or that they have simply never developed it?

well im thinking mainly physiology-wise - fae can be so much more morphologically different from each other than humans can, and humans already have difficulty doing cpr especially different body types

fachons are half a body, cut vertically. where do you position your hands for compressions? dullahan have no heads - how do you give them rescue breaths? pixies are so small two inches of chest compressions would simply crush them like bugs, and a human-sized hand is maybe not even capable of exerting little enough force to give chest compressions of any depth without accompanying organ damage.

i think cpr on fae is probably possible - but you would have to invent one for every single type of fae body that exists, and it would have to occur to you this something that you could do

(however it does occur to me that with nymphs and maaaaybe pixies specifically, rescue breaths probably work better than on a human, because its mostly carbon dioxide)
