Hi Papa! Do you think you can get me some more books? I've read all the ones you got me last time...
Of course, dearest. Do you have any specific genre in mind? I suppose I needn’t remind you that Christmas is just around the corner—and if you receive good marks in all your classes, you can come with me to the bookshop and get as many books as you can carry.
Look at your little girl; all grown up and roasting King George III relentlessly.
Though I should expect nothing less from her, I am exceedingly proud.
@ask-theodosia-burr
My daughter is no one’s property. She is not “your lady” and she is perfectly capable of making her own decisions.
Are you questioning her fidelity? If you respected her like you say you do, you wouldn’t feel the need to “claim” her just to try and preserve your masculinity.
How does it feel to know that your daughter is cooler than you?
While I don’t think there’s much merit in being “cool” (by the definition you’re using, at least), I expect nothing less of my Theodosia. I raised her to exceed expectations, of course, but she’s accomplished much on her own and is growing into an intelligent, effervescent individual.
I feel nothing but pride.
did you ever give your daughter the same "talk less, smile more" speech that you gave alexander?
Honestly? I never had to. Not to say that she didn’t have her share of tantrums as a toddler, but she’s always been wise beyond her years and is a much better listener than almost every person I’ve met. She also has a smile that I can only describe as ‘radiant’.
If anything, I’ve had to encourage her to speak up. Though she is charming and bright, she has the tendency to be reserved. One of her tutors, unbeknownst to me, tried to encourage submissiveness and I fired her the moment I became aware of it. This is one of the reasons why I conduct as many of her studies as I can.
what do you like doing in your spare time?
Most of my spare time is spent with my daughter. We read together. She’s quite proficient in French now so we sometimes read French literature. I enjoy reading for pleasure on my own as well, since most of what I read in the office is far from pleasing.
