Hey guyyyys this is my first digital piece for Double Trouble and my new s/i for them, whom I’ve decided to name Fiyo! (pronounced fee-oh) What should their ship name be? Double Trio? Triyo?? does that make sense???
This artwork was both a pain and a pleasure to make, as I used the curve tool instead of the pen for pretty much all the line art, just to experiment :)) It’s time consuming, but it makes for smooth work when done right :0
I’m too tired to infodump about Fiyo, but I did come up with a meeting story for these two surprisingly fast for having fallen in love with this reptilian boi not too long before 😳 Seriously they.,, they have my heart 🥺💚
(Note: I’m so sorry to make you feel obligated to read all this you really don’t have to 😭)
tldr: Fiyo hires DT to do her own job after they “audition” for a day; infodump / rambling / more details / 😔 ok basically a whole story under the cut
Ok so before I fully answer this, I’ll have to explain Fiyo a little bit :) She lives in the Crimson Waste, somewhere around the Valley of the Lost. Due to her size and skill, she somehow found favor from the children in the small city, which resulted in her working as a sort of children’s entertainer / babysitter. Makes sense; there’s no way residents of the Crimson Waste would wanna deal with the little gremlins. Fiyo honestly hates her job, but has no other way to support herself and her adopted child.
Now, any time she is at work, sitting with the kids and resting from the more physically draining parts of the job, she’ll drift away from the kiddos’ conversations and look around to distract herself from their nonsense. Something has been off for quite a while around town — specifically, she’ll catch a glimpse of a stranger turning into a different stranger as they pass behind something. Ever since then, she’s been on edge; she was intrigued, but also wanted to keep the kiddos out of danger.
Whoever has watched the show knows that this is Double Trouble. Sometimes, Fiyo would see them out of costume, but it hadn’t yet clicked that this was their true form. However, she realized over time that this reptilian creature isn’t a face she sees as often as the others. She wouldn’t lie, their face was kinda pleasing and her heart does a little “!” in those rare instances she gets to see it.
As for DT, they only really paid attention to Fiyo during a rough time they couldn’t catch a break for acting, or more devious jobs like espionage, or troublemaking in general. Determined to widen their range of characters, they spied on her for character study, easily noticing she was really tired and stressed out. They felt some kind of pity for her, but not necessarily the deep and heartfelt kind. The kind of pity that benefited them to see in person in order to implement it into their range of emotions for acting purposes (like how they can only shed tears by imagining children falling (even if it’s from laughter), they are better able to put on a mask of stress by imagining Fiyo tired at work). They realized that this could be the perfect chance to get hired!
The next day, Fiyo wakes up late; she really looks like she needs some coffee. Upon realizing how long she overslept, she panicked and made haste towards the spot in town she was to wait for the kids, fearing the possible words and actions of the busy parents she kept waiting. As the location was in sight, she suddenly froze. The kids were already gathered together, and cheering on the performance of Fiyo’s double. From a distance, the two made real eye contact for the first time, DT giving her a smug wink. After most of Fiyo’s fright left her, she ran and hid, giving herself some time to comprehend all this.
She didn’t leave the area unless absolutely necessary. For hours, she stalked around to make sure the kiddos were safe and in good hands, while also making sure no one would notice there’s apparently two of her. DT somehow ends up taking up her job for a whole day, reassuring themself that this would increase their chances of getting hired. After all, Fiyo seemed sick of it, and DT was better able to compose themself and keep their head on straight, even though kids aren’t quite their ideal audience. They were still guaranteed applause from such an easy crowd though. Also, they’re at rock bottom and just a tiny bit desperate for a job right now.
When the day’s over, DT sneaks their way into a small cave they know to be the house of Fiyo. This is where they first officially meet. I’m sure DT would have shapeshifted themself as either Fiyo or her adopted child and acted like them, also asking questions that would lead up to DT’s point about being hired. Then, they reveal their true self to her and talk about what happened today. They call their first day on the job quite a tough “audition,” but charges nothing for it, handing her the bag of money that was supposed to be given to her by the parents. Fiyo is shocked at first, but they keep talking and the two eventually strike a deal; DT will work a portion of Fiyo’s schedule (last three days of the week) and receive the daily pay for themself. This way, Fiyo gets more break days and won’t have to pay them directly... except for a reasonable tip ;) On days they’re not working for her, they’re out seeking more opportunities. It still goes on for a while! Occasionally, they’ll come inside for a chat. 💚
