Hi! Ill be a in incoming freshman at a university in the fall and am not sure if I should get the Campus Backpack or the Laptop Backpack. What do you think would be best? Thanks so much, Aania

First of all, I love you url! Secondly, the type of backpack that would be best for you depends on what you plan to be majoring in and what you need for that course.

If you plan to go with a major that requires you to take several thick textbooks at a time and lots of other things such as clothes, food, tools, notebooks, binders etc I would go with the Campus Backpack. That thing is huge and it can lug whatever you need to carry. (More detailed review on the Campus Backpack on my Reviews page.)

The Laptop Backpack on the other hand is better for majors where all you need is several folders, binders, notebooks, a thin textbook or two, and your laptop. Make sure though, that your laptop is on the small and thin side of 15” because Vera does have a sizing issue when it comes to laptops.  A lot of the space is taken up by the padding in the laptop sleeve, but if you don’t have or need to bring a laptop you can use the extra space to store all your supplies. If all you need to take is the above mentioned in the last paragraph sans your laptop, I think you could probably get away with the Double Zip Backpack or some old medium-sized backpack style on the VB website. It’s bigger than it looks and it can even hold a smaller sized laptop in a computer sleeve (though it won’t get the protection the Laptop Backpack can give.)

Hey! I have really been wanting a Vera Bradley backpack for a long time. My dad's letting me get a VB backpack(not a tote). Which one should I choose? I'm using it for 8th grade and high school, so mainly one 2 1/2 inch zipper binder, one 1/2 inch binder, and maybe a book. I would also like a pocket on the outside for a water bottle. Any suggestions? I would also like one under $80.

Hey there! It sounds like for your needs a Double Zip Backpack would work just fine for you, but that seems like an awfully light load for 8th grade and high school. More likely than not you’ll have to carry around big textbooks and the Campus Backpack will suit that perfectly. I would err on the side of caution and go with that choice instead. If you want the CB to be under 80 dollars, then you’ll have to buy it in one of the retired patterns. So far there’s only Provençal, Portobello Road, Paisley Meets Plaid, Summer Cottage, and Camellia available and it starts at $65.40. Hope this helps!

I'm pretty new to Vera Bradley. A lot of people at school had VB backpacks but I never got one because they are so expensive. But I just graduated high school so I'm retiring my old one and I thought it would be the best time to invest in a cute backpack for college. I've been scrolling through all the types of backpacks but I thought I would ask you for your opinion on which backpack to get or your thoughts about each of the different ones.

I love these types of questions! Excitement aside, first off let’s completely disregard the Backpack and Rolling Backpack. The Backpack is wayyy to small, and the Rolling Backpack seems childish and unwieldy.

Next, the Laptop Backpack.This Backpack is fine if you don’t really have that much stuff to carry while taking your laptop with you. Most of the interior space is taken up by padding for your laptop and as a result, it can become a tight fit. This backpack also only fits Laptops that are on the thin side, like Macs, and some people have trouble with the Vera’s sizing dimensions, so make sure your Laptop is on the small side of 15”. All in all, I would not recommend this bag if you have a major that requires lots of heavy textbooks and big binders. If you know you’re going into something where you only really need notebooks and 1” binders, this could be your backpack!

The Campus Backpack. This would definitely be the backpack I would recommend for you. It’s one of the largest backpacks Vera Bradley has ,so it can definitely carry whatever you need. The great thing about this backpack is that it can be used not just only for school: Camping, Traveling, you name it it’ll do it. Some downsides are: it will start sagging and the cardboard base could stop working if you put a lot of things in it. Also some customers complained that the handles start fraying or the bottom becomes weak, but those seem like isolated incidents.

The Double Zip Backpack. This one offers a cute little twist on the traditional shape of a Backpack. This one seems best for medium sized loads or majors where you only really need notebooks, thin binders, and a small textbook. DO NOT get this if you are going into a major that requires you to have several thousand page textbooks.

All in all, my final recommendation is the Campus Backpack. You really can’t go wrong with it! Now you need to decide which pattern to get! I would recommend that you wait until the release of the Fall 2013 patterns in case you want one of those. Hope you have a great college experience!

Which is why this bag is essential for this upcoming Europe trip and any others that are likely to occur in the future. Not going to worry about my bag breaking ever again.
