DoubleMap for iOS, the best app for comparing places has been updated with cool new features!
Did you know that the world maps we often see have distortion in size and shape toward North and South Poles? Google Maps used in DoubleMap is no exception. This means you cannot compare Northern regions and regions around Equator at equal size even if you view them at the same zoom level.
You can see this in how Google Maps shows you different scales depending on the city you’re viewing at the same zoom level.
This is caused by the way Google Maps draws its maps based on Mercator Projection but I won’t go into the details here. The important thing is that DoubleMap now adjusts zoom level of the two maps to make sure both regions are drawn at the same actual size. This makes it the only app that lets you compare any places at the exact same scales!
In addition to zoom adjustments, DoubleMap also transforms the maps based on visible regions to provide shapes much closer to the real geography on spherical Earth. This feature is very effective when viewing large areas containing long North-South distances.
Download for free now and see it for yourself!

DoubleMap for iOS
Hey tumblr. I’ve released an iOS app called DoubleMap. It’s a simple map app that lets you view two (Google) maps with a same zoom scale.
Why two maps? A couple use cases:
See your home town on one map, and your travel destination you’re visiting for the first time on the other. Now you can visually grasp rough size of the area, distances between key locations, etc.
Just pick two famous sites/landmarks and compare them side by side. It’s actually pretty fun to put those world-famous xyz in perspective of something you know.
Of course you can use them for whatever other purposes like see regular map and satellite view of a same location.
You can save up to 3 locations for later use, or however many you want by unlocking all features once including ability to switch map types.
Go download it free! And if you like it, please please consider leaving a quick review in the App Store from the settings in the app. Thanks.
