We have been on a Herkimer Diamond kick the last 2 weeks. We rarely have had larger Herkimers, nor have we had this large of a selection. Thus, we decided to do a big feature on them! It’s been a blast getting them ready for you. - Herkimer Diaminds come from mines in Herkimer, NY. They are not actually diamonds, but Quartz. The higher the clarity, the more valuable they are. Unusual formations (like the one in the picture) are also coveted. They are mined through a process called hard rock mining, which is a rather difficult form of mining when all is said and done. Most Herkimers are double terminated with 18 faces. They are found in a dolomitic limestone rock which are said to be around 500 million years old!
