☕ impact of astrology/apps like costar

adfksdfkl ok i’ll give my own opinion. i think people rely way too much on astrology to rationalise their lives, often to the point of developing or reinforcing previously held uncompromising views about various things in life. i personally don’t use costar because i believe it makes people so... fatalistic about everything. if costar says you’re gonna have a bad day then it must be true, all of that. and every notification that costar sends you must be a sign of the universe, right? WRONG. these apps literally tape every conversation just like other social media platforms (instagram, facebook, etc) use microphones to fine-tune the ads you see (like saying “i need a christmas tree” around your phone and magically getting christmas tree amazon ads on instagram). they’re just listening to you and the algorithms do the rest of the work. anyways. obviously it’s none of my business whether or not people run every single personality trait and social interaction through a zodiac-based template but i choose not to do that while still thinking that astrology can be fun and an interesting topic of conversation when talking to someone with emotional intelligence and maturity lol. and i don’t use apps like costar because i think it runs on doubt and misery to create dependence and a fatalistic approach to life which is inherently not what i’m about! thanks for asking :-)

maghrebi weddings are so much fun and we dress so well but they take too damn long! who has the time to eat a 5 course meals at 1 in the fucking morning! also they don’t play enough reggada and as an oujdia i feel discriminated against. lmao jk but honestly if they don’t play reggada i don’t move from my chair i can’t stand chaabi. i wish people were less busy trying to give me the evil eye and ask me when i’m getting married tho like the stress... but it’s also a wonderful opportunity to meet new people OR if i get bored to catch up on my ebooks LMAO

the book side of youtube is probably my favourite bc we’re just trying to get literate lol! i don’t take most reviews seriously which is probably not a good thing to say as someone who does book reviews on youtube as well but everybody is either busy being NICE (as opposed to being FRANK) or shilling some coupon code for a book box subscription service that at the end of the day i take it all with a big grain of salt. and it certainly does promote a materialistic lifestyle with all these hauls and whatnot. i’d also say that a big negative is how often black booktubers are put on the sideline and don’t have as many subscribers as the next yt becky despite being genuinely more insightful and thorough, which is really sad. but all in all while i don’t personally feel a sense of community (bc i don’t really participate) i think that as far as youtube niches are concerned, booktube is definitely my fave place. there are so many people who put out intelligent, articulated reviews and who helped me broaden my horizons. on a personal level i’m happy to be able to share my opinion on books and that it is encouraging me to read more and to keep up with my schedule. my videos aren’t all that but when i finally delete on tumblr and give up on twitter i’ll probably keep my videos going bc i’ll never stop reading and having opinions lmao.
