Doug White’s Christmas Time Once More
For the second time this season, Doug White is popping up on my NL Music Advent Calendar — and I’m more than happy to make room.
Earlier this month, his collaboration with Kathy Stock, Hope at Christmas, featured during the first week. Now White is back with Christmas Time Once More, a 2024 release that leans comfortably into folk territory and celebrates the quieter, simpler pleasures of the holiday season.
The song has an interesting origin story. White explains that it came together when his band was invited to take part in the Health Care Foundation’s Making Spirits Bright broadcast. Rather than navigate the maze of permissions required when covering Christmas songs, he decided to write something original instead.
“It turned out alright,” White says — a bit of an understatement.
Christmas Time Once More feels sincere and joyful. It’s the kind of song that sits comfortably in my holiday playlists.
