1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?
Her backstory and appearance. Her name came later as did her becoming my fav fucking DC OC
2. Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?
She’s a clone of Dick Grayson so yeah kinda.
3. How did you choose their name?
I chose her name to be a parallel to Robin so she became Dove. Dove Grayson. She also chose the name Shadow Wing when she decided to do the hero thing because she believed herself to be Dick’s shadow.
4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?
The Heroes v The Government aspect of DC mostly because that’s why she was cloned.
5. Is there any significance behind their hair color?
Clone of Dick Grayson so kinda?
6. Is there any significance behind their eye color?
See above.
7. Is there any significance behind their height?
See above. But also not really.
8. What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?
Not a whole lot really other than wanting to do the right thing and feeling betrayed by the people who made her/me
9.Are they based off of you, in some way?
Nope.
10. If they have an LI, how much of their character is tailored to be compatible to that person?
Not a lot tbh. I do ship her with Damian but that was just kinda because they were around the same age and found that she and my Damian muse had an interesting dynamic. It’d never work in the long term though. Also gave her two other notable LIs throughout her life named Shimmeria (a New God) and Ray (a cop) but both of them were more tailored to her since they came later.
11. Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?
No but the more I thought about it the more obvious it became that she was pan
12. What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?
Motivation and the belief that no one but me cares. I considered introducing her into my Teen Titans fic but decided against it.
13. How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?
SO PAST. I based her around New-52 so I kinda have her plot following along with the New-52 Nightwing serial and then Dick “dies” and her story branches off drastically. I now have her in her own city with her own team and her own enemies.
14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?
1. She’s not Dick Grayson.
2. It’s ok for her to struggle with the fact that she’s not Dick Grayson. That’s the reason I built her character, to explore what it’s like to not be who you were made to be.
15. What is something about your OC that can make you laugh?
When she was dating Officer Ray Johnson, when she was an adult obviously, he was trying to arrest Shadow Wing but didn’t know he was dating her. This caused a lot of funny confusion and she just couldn’t pass up the chance to flirt with him while wearing the mask.
16. What is something about your OC that can make you cry?
She feels inadequate and like she’ll always be just a bad copy of the original. Despite this, she tries her hardest. When Dick “died” she was advised to give up the vigilante game because it was too dangerous now that people knew who Nightwing was. She flat out ignored that because, despite the evil purpose she was made for, she wants to help people so badly.
17. Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?
Honestly, I regret making her so closely tied to Dick’s New-52 story. Because now it’s hard to write fanfiction of her without just rewriting New-52 Nightwing.
18. What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?
Her favorite type of pizza is deep dish and according to her it’s not real pizza unless it’s at least 3 inches thick. This appalls Dick who prefers New York style pizza.
19. What is your favorite fact about your OC?
She refuses to give up. I put her through a lot of shit in her storyline and through it all she picks herself back up and throws herself back at the problem. Kinda wish I had that kind of determination.
