DoWaS Tadashi frees Hiro before he gets paralyzed, and then the experiment that resulted in his antler damage gets cancelled and all the servitors involved must be killed-but Tadashi’s got a new technique, and they figure they can work it out if he’s vivisected, but they have to paralyze him first. They trick him into thinking that he has mild radiation sickness and the paralytic is a cure. To save Hiro from the same fate, a werewolf turns on a video screen to show him the footage, thinking he’ll be killed by punishment fugue from the mind control. Instead he just breaks free of the societal conditioning, lacking a Blessing, and proceeds to smash and force field cut his way up, saving Tadashi, before using a Sharing (teaching spell, creates a mental environment that little kids can safely practice their magic in) to talk telepathically with Tadashi and learn the teleport spell that Tadashi got given to him by part of the Pattern.
Then Hiro discovers that he likes fighting, the poor Institute gets so mangled it’s irreparable, he plays with gravitational manipulation to throw antimagic coated aircraft around and manages to get a single working wingflap in a no magic environment, and then in the shielded beam chamber he teleports Tadashi, Baymax, and himself out, along with a LOT of random stuff, while also blowing up the chamber behind him with three thermobarics that he found, an impact detonator, a telekinesis spell (that fades very quickly once he's teleported off) and a large bit of rubble.

Chapter titles are weird. And often clever. Book Two’s ‘Killing them Softly’ is about faking deaths, for example.

DoWaS Hiro ends up with hair that looks like the night sky, there's even little points of light like the heliostats (also known as STARs) that orbit. (Heliostats are big orbiting mirrors used for adding extra daylight hours. Sometimes they're retasked at strange hours and suddenly bright sunlight for a few minutes. )
DoWaS Tadashi's strain cracks were microcracks, so sadly the crystal is only visible with a microscope or a magnification spell. It is pretty, though, if you HAVE a magnification spell. Which Baymax has. Also it is difficult for the Hamabros to be scared of Baymax, even if he has their mother's antlers, because he's just. So nice. And he offers up a replacement name for the Masters: 'doggies'.
(OOOOH It’s a fanfic! That’s why I couldn’t find it! I was looking for a short story in some sci-fi compendium or something.
Oh man, the visual of Hiro with night sky hair is absolutely gorgeous. And even if they’re microcracks, I bet Tadashi’s antlers are very sparkly as a result in certain lights. Basically from the sounds of it the boys would be very pretty and shimmery in this AU XD)
