As a freerider, the choice of board is crucial. The first board you pick will determine how you move on into more advanced riding. For the purpose of making the right choice, we will go through these in steps.
STEP ONE: The Topmount
The topmount is the most basic type of board. Like the classic skateboard, the trucks are mounted directly onto the bottom of the board meaning that the ride-height depends on the trucks height and the boards thickness.
As you can see on the image above, most topmounts are accompanied by wheel wells to give clearance for the wheels in a turn. If the clearance isn't sufficient it causes something called wheel-bite. This means that rubber meets wood and cause an abrupt stop (not good). In general the shop-keep or other present riders will help you with what goes. If in doubt, spend a few extra dollars on risers and the problem will disappear.
