It's knowing that Maxwell has only ever fit in at Revington. That he is too adventurous to fit with his family but too posh to fit with the wind riders. "Olethra are you a wind rider?" No hesitation yes. "Maxwell do you believe in adventure?" Hesitation and a "Theoretically." He likes being at Revington because there's rules but it isn't nailed to the ground. He is too primed for high society but too unprepared for it at the same time.

Adaine Abernant is doomed by the narrative. All Oracles are Elves. They always die tragically, it’s said in freshman year. She isn’t going to live forever. She might outlive the bad kids, but she won't live forever. If they live their life expectancy it’ll probably go something like this.

It’ll be Gorgug first, at 75, they all go to the funeral and mourn their beloved friend. Then it’ll be Riz at 80, and Adaine and Fabian will be hit the hardest but everyone will be there, their detective is gone. Kristen will pass next around 80-90, the greatest cleric of her age. The funeral will be in her own church she was working at. Fig, Adaine, and Fabian are the last half that are left. Next will be Fig at around 100-150, the archdevil of rebellion being buried with the feather Ayda gave her at the start of their relationship. Ayda is there, whether in a new incarnation or not we don’t know, but she’s there. Adaine and Fabian are closer than ever, and spend their time together, since Minotaurs live 150 years as well, they likely attend Mazey’s funeral around the same time. Next is Fabian at 180. Aelwyn holds Adaine at the funeral, the bad kids are almost all gone, but at least she has Aelwyn. Then at some point years later, with Adaine, Aelwyn and Ayda all together, Adaine has an accident while doing an oracle-related quest. Aelwyn can’t do magic and eat ice cream with her sister forever. I hope she stays with Ayda. I hope they become a family for each other, since they’re the only two left.

Gorgug Thistlespring, a Half-Orc Barbarian raised by gnome tinkerers. His parents don’t fully get him but they love him and support him as he is. He dated a 4’11” girl and He’s 6’4”. He offered someone a metal flower on the first day of school, punched them, still offered them the flower, and sang in class. He died on the first day of school and went to hell. He bonded with Kristen because they both died that day. He became a drummer because Fig saw him sing about rage and wanted to share her coping mechanism. They became a rock band. He protects his friends. He loves his friends more than anything. He helped Ragh accept himself by kissing him at Prom and getting him to help fight a dragon. He left Elmville without telling Zelda goodbye and spent an entire season trying to fix it. Fig was missing, Riz was dragged into a mirror? He had to get to them, but he should have called her. He’s the greatest wizard of the age. “Spring Break, I believe in you.” He is the crab king and the shrimp prince. He figured out how to use his parent’s satellite to talk to Zelda. “It’s Gorgug, keep going.” He hugged Fabian, who punched him on the first day of school when they got back to each other in the Nightmare King’s forest. He multiclassed without anyone doing it before him and without help. He mixed his parents together and made a new multiclass. He built the solar lasso that caught the night yorb, he helped Riz gain some of his arcano-tech! His van is holding the Night Yorb. He uses his rage to protect people, he took 4 years of school at once to make sure he got to multiclass because he was not gonna be told no. He stayed on the Owlbears for Fabian even though he didn’t want it anymore. He took the Last Standard Exam and he crit so. many. times. He didn’t fall and neither did his friends! He flew a boat and killed dragons and he protected his spellcasters from Porter because that bitch was not gonna kill his friends. He hugged Kristen and told her she looked better. He looked better too. “Remember when we died?” He posited “It might happen again,” she responded. He didn’t let it. He wouldn’t let that happen. Not to them, never again. His new girlfriend is 2’.

I genuinely can’t get over him I love him and I have so many more analyses of so many more characters coming and hopefully they will be more coherent but it’s 4 am in a warehouse

Something to be said about holding onto a literal broken heart as a symbol of the beauty and loyalty of your close friend, something sought after for many years by them, forged to dampen anger and rage so that they could be safe to be around. After it no longer works, Max held onto it, protected it from being stolen. He took this heart everywhere, and the first time he does anything to it, he wraps it around his hands. It's meant to be a weapon, but it also is wrapping a prized material, a carefully crafted heart, around his hands. He is literally protecting people with something Torse dreamt to protect himself. Taken a huge loss for Torse (the loss of his golden, worthy heart) and made it into something worthy, helpful, and protective. But yeah don't worry about it, Torse and Max are totally straight.

Olethra is so important to me. She loved the crew as soon as she read about them, loved Maxwell immediately, and when she got to know them truly, outside of the books, she made more room in her heart. She met them where they were. She used her knowledge from the books to be kind to them when their faults showed. She loved them so quickly in exactly the way they needed. "Dream team." Maxwell and Olethra. Monty and her fixing the ship and talking about the mantis. The silk worms for Marya. Pappy and her talking about Comfrey. Please.
