Nothing's Changed. || Poppy & Posey
Posey stood there as she watched her twin walk away from her, her face expressionless. This was a scene that she had lived many a times. They'd disagree, which turned into a fight, which turned into the two of them storming off, unaware why they were arguing in the first place. She crossed her arms as her reflection turned the corner and disappeared Posey reached into her back pocket, pulling out a slightly smushed box of cigarettes containing a single stick left and a lighter. The blonde lit it in the middle of the hallway, not giving a damn if anyone caught her. They couldn't exactly do anything to her anyway, she was there by court order.
After a few elongated drags, she let out a sigh of relief. Dealing with her sister always made her agitated, and the only things that calmed her down was a cigarette. Poppy didn't know it, but it was all their constant arguing that had gotten her so addicted to them at such a young age. It wasn't like she could turn to her dad; he always sided with "poor Poppy". Her nose scrunched up just at the many memories that flooded her mind, all the times they'd fight and Poppy would have a panic attack, causing dear old daddy to come aid her and scold the younger of the two. It's how it always ended. Up until their last fight, when he wasn't home. That one ended a bit differently. Posey tried to think of how long ago that fight was, the fight that caused them to disown each other. Almost a year ago? Sounded about right, it was around Thanksgiving. That was one year Posey didn't have much to be thankful for other than her handy nicotine.
Without really thinking, Posey took a step forward and began to walk in the same direction that her sister had ran off to. She slowly made her way towards the end of the hall and turned the corner, her cigarette balanced between her lips. She passed by one of the doors and stopped. The smell. Posey never remembered what she called the scent, and she never really cared to remember pointless things like that anyway. But the nostalgic scent draped over her, and she knew that it was Poppy's room. It had to be. She faced the door and took another drag, holding her breath for a moment. Exhaling, she knocked on the door obnoxiously loud, just to be that much more of a prick. Saying nothing, she stood there waiting impatiently. Finally the door creaked open, and before she even saw a face there she held the cigarette in between her two fingers and lowered it to her side, hiding the sight but not smell of it. Her eyes flickered up to the figure before her and remained silent, her face stone. After a moment of silence, Posey nodded. "Well? Aren't you going to invite me in?"
*Walks around outskirts of the party, looking for Poppy*
Uh, hello? *sees Poppy and walks calmly toward her* Darlin'? Darlin', are you alright? *eyes filled with concern*
Flashback #1: 5 years old
"Posey," she said, tapping the girl's shoulder lightly. "Posey, are you up?" The small girl opened her eyes to see her reflection, looking back at her with wide, scared eyes. Rubbing her tired ones, she asked, "what's wrong Poppy?" as she leaned up. The twins opted to share a room rather than have their own, feeling more comfortable being together as usual. It was the middle of the night, and the thunder cracked with anger as the rain streaked the windows of the nice-sized loft they lived in with their father. "Did you have another nightmare?" the five-year old nodded, unable to respond vocally.
"Here," Posey sighed, lifting the covers up so that her sister could join her, "come here." Poppy followed her younger sister's instructions without question, this being a common occurrence as of late. Once she settled in, Posey wrapped her little arms around her, pulling her close. "It's okay," she cooed, attempting to calm her down. The girl knew her sister frightened easily, so on nights like this, it was hard for her not to get bad dreams. The only thing that seemed to sooth her was having Posey hold her tightly, assuring her everything was alright. She was happy to help; after all, they weren't just twins, they were best friends. After several minutes of silence, she heard her sister quietly murmur "Hey, Posey?" "Yeah?" "We'll always.. we'll always be best friends, right?" The little one shifted her gaze from the window to Poppy. "Of course," she answered honestly, giving her a slight squeeze. The two drifted off in her bed, the older one still in the younger one's arms.
A loud crack of thunder awoke Posey, gasping quietly from the surprise. Looking down to her arms, Posey realized her arms were wrapped around nothing more than a pillow, clinging securely to it. Looking around, she realized that she was in her hotel room in New Orleans, both roommates out of sight. Assuming they were gone, Posey stood up and grabbed a box of Camels and went over to the window. She ran her fingers through her blonde waves with a sigh, her free hand fidgeting with the lighter. Bringing the lighter to a fresh cigarette, she pulled it to her lips in inhaled a long drag. As the girl exhaled she closed her eyes, trying to forget the flashback. She let out a bittersweet chuckle, looking down at the ground below her hotel room. "So much for that," she thought aloud. Her mind wandered to the last time they spoke. What was it, 10 months ago? 11? a year? The weeks blurred by after their falling out. It's okay, she reassured herself, things are better this way. I don't need her in my life, and I certainly won't see her here. She attempted to mask the fact that the two were estranged, saying to herself, Poppy's gone; she's not my sister. Skylar is. Her mind repeated those words until they played in her head effortlessly. Poppy's gone; she's not my sister. Skylar is.
Skylar was.

Poppy-
Two days. Two full days I was here. At Disney Prep. Looking for you. And what did I find? Everyone but you.
Haven't you missed me?
I thought.. I thought we would have gotten past what happened by now, but I guess not. I just wanted to see you, Pops. I wanted you to be the first to know why I was here. But I guess you couldn't stand to crawl out of your anti-social cave long enough to welcome your twin. But don't worry about it, Pops. I'm gone again.
By the time you read this, I will have already left for my court hearing, and hopefully I won't be coming back, and things for you will go back to how they were. I know how you hate when things happen unexpectedly. Wouldn't want to mess with that. So, if things do end up going back to normal, I guess I'll talk to you in 10 months.
