Mittsie - Forget me nots

Part 2 of me assigning every dps ship a flower!

Part 1 (Anderperry) | Part 3 (Charginny)

For Mittsie I am assigning them forget me not!

Forget me nots very commonly symbolize Long-lasting connections and love and devotion!

Along with that they also symbolize remembrance, and one of the websites I was looking up the flowers on described forget me nots as "devotion that persists beyond the veil of death" and "lovers adorned themselves with these blooms as a token of everlasting affection, ensuring their bond remained strong when separated."(This website)

Which, the bond being strong even when seperated makes me think about them being seperated when Meeks went to war. And love beyond the veil of death makes me think of Meeks dying in the war.

Also there are a few different stories about the origins of Forget me nots, but the one that I think is very Mittsie is the story of a knight who tried to pick the flowers for his beloved by a river. However due to the weight of his armour, he fell into the water. Before he drowned he threw the flowers to his beloved while shouting "Forget me not!"

Anderperry- Sweet peas

This is part 1 of a series of posts I'm going to do where I assign each ship a flower!

Part 2 (Mittsie)

I am assigning Anderperry Sweet peas!

Sweet peas represent blissful pleasures along with departures and goodbyes. Which I think is a good representation of their relationship.

They had a short time together where they were really close and happy to have each other's company. Then Neil left and Todd had to say goodbye.

Different colored sweet peas have slightly different meanings, but red ones mean deep love. You could also argue using yellow for them, for friendship.

Along with that, many people believe that the first person to actually call them Sweet Peas was the poets John Keats! Which feels very relevant

I couldn't find specifics what the first time Keats said sweet peas was, but one of his poems that mentions Sweet Peas is "I stood Tip Toe upon A little Hill" and the Staza that mentions sweet peas is

"Here are sweet peas, on tip-toe for a flight:With wings of gentle flush o’er delicate white,And taper fingers catching at all things,To bind them all about with tiny rings."

all of this feels perfectly Anderperry to me

I could also argue that they have connections to blue roses.

Blue roses are unnatural and man-made, so they represent the pursuit for the impossible. Like Neil's dreams seemed impossible and how their relationship is impossible.

Chameron- Hydrangea

Part 4 of my series where I assign every Dead Poets ship a flower

Part 3(Charginny)|Part 5(Cameeks)

For Chameron, I am assigning them Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas have several meanings depending on the cultural you are looking at. In Japan, they signify heartfelt emotion and apology, while in Europe, they symbolise arrogance and vanity (from this website)

Which I think fits with Chameron because with them, I think the love is there but they are both so alike that they also clash. They are both stubborn and neither of them want to admit how they might feel.

If I had to pick a specific color, I'd pick blue Hydrangeas. They represent forgiveness, rejection and regret. All of which I would consider the main parts of their relationship. It isn't sweet and loving, it's love that hurts.

There is a myth with hydrangeas about an emperor who used hydrangeas to ask for forgiveness from a girl he loved after he neglected her to focus on his work.

And it isn't a direct match, but if you squint you can kind of compare that to Charlie neglecting Cameron as part of the group ("who knows? Who cares?" When someone asked where Cameron was in the delated cave scene)

Spameron- Blue Asters

Part 9 (chetknox) | Part 11 (pending)

*Note I will be referring to the sick kid as Arthur for this post

Arthur and Cameron's flower is Blue Asters! Blue asters symbolize trustworthiness and faithfulness (From this website) as well as being associated with balance, patience, and love (From this website)

I imagine the two of them bonding while being the quieter kids in class who tend to be pushed off to the side. And I think this flower fits them because I imagine because of that they would have a very strong relationship. Whether that relationship for them is romantic, platonic or something else I imagine that being built off of a strong trust for each other.

And I think the Faithfulness part fits them because I think faithful toward each other and they have each other's backs, like the scene in the movie where Cameron tries to block the paper ball Knox threw at Arthur. (There is no in movie example of the other way around, but I believe it happens)

and then with balance, patience, and love. I just think that is an overview of the way their dynamic is with each other. They have a peaceful balance with each other, where they pretty easily fall into line with one another. I'm sure they may have some problems in some points but I think those problems will end with a very patient and peaceful love.

The name Asters comes from the Greek work "asteri" which means star.(Source) This isn't based on anything canon but I feel like these two would like to learn about the stars together.

Daltonperry- Zinnias

Part 8 of assigning every dead poets society ship a flower! Feel free to request ships for me to assign flowers

Part 7(Camknox)|Part 9(Chetknox)

So Charlie and Neil's flower is Zinnias! They represent thoughts of an absent friend, daily remembrance and lasting affection.

Charlie and Neil were really close, so all of these can relate to Charlie having to live after Neil's death. How he will always remember Neil and he will always care about him even if he is gone.

Zinnias can also be a symbol of endurance. Which makes me think about how after Neil's death Charlie has to stay strong and move forward, acting as the strong on of the group while still grieving, and how he gets expelled soon after.

Charginny - Orchid

Part 3 of assigning a flower to every Dead Poets Society ship

Part 2 (Mittsie) | Part 4 (Chameron)

For Charginny I am assigning them orchid for their flower :)

Orchids have a few different means, but some of them include love, beauty, refinement, thoughtfulness and mature charm. 

The love and beauty makes me think about Charlie finding Ginny beautiful while ..certain other people may consider her very plain

And the refinement, thoughtfulness and mature charm part makes me thing about Charlie wanting to become a better person for her. I think their relationship itself is very mature.

As far as I know, Orchids don't have a fun name myth attached to them. So I talk about some colors.

White orchids can be symbols of purity and innocence. They can be given as a sign of appreciation, respect, or reverence. White orchids can also be used to convey a message of hope or new beginnings, and blue orchids are very rare, and as such are often seen as symbols of rarity and uniqueness. Which I think is very them (from this website)

Cameeks- Sunflower

Part 5 of assigning every dead poets society ship a flower! Feel free to request a ship for me to assign a flower!

Part 4(Chameron)| Part 6 (CamTodd)

So the Cameron and Meeks flower is sunflowers! Sunflowers have a few meanings attached to them, the ones I am focusing on are their symbolism for loyalty and devotion. The website I was on described this as " "It represents the idea of staying true to one's values and remaining dedicated to a cause or person." And "They represent a steadfast commitment and a promise to always be there for the person we care about" (from this website)

And I think that is a good way to view Cameron and Meeks' relationship too. I think they are very dedicated to each other. They have a lot in common, academicly and interests wise, and they understand each other in a way other people may not. They care a lot about each other, and I think its an intense but very...natural dedication? Like they don't consciencely lean into this role together, but they just naturally fall into this state where they are committed to each other. Not to say that their relationship may be easy, but I think caring about each other, whether they might want it to be or not. (Kinda like how the sunflower is easily drawn to the sun, maybe).

Anyways! Sunflowers also represent growth! Which also represents them because they would grow together. Meeks would be able to meet Cameron in the middle of his fear and find a way to help him get more confident and venture out of his comfort zone. Cameron would be able to help Meeks grow emotionally. He will help Meeks learn to care differently, and find out how he should help certain people. (Description taken/inspired by @si-nemo-me-reminiscetur)

Sunflowers are also used to clean radiation in an area! This too can be Cameron and Meeks if you think about, because together they can work through tension between them that might initially be there, and again it's the idea of growing toegther.

Chetknox- Yellow Hyacinth

Part 8(Daltonperry)|Part 10(Spameron)

Chet and Knox's flower would be yellow hyacinth! Hyacinth has a few meanings depending on the color however yellow ones repersent intense jealously.

Jealously is a big part of Chetknox, if you look at canon there is obviously Knox being jealous of chet because he gets to be with Chris. However, there is also the idea of Knox mixing up jealously and attaction, where he's actually jealous of Chris for being with Chet.

The hyacinth comes from the Greek myth where "the handsome Spartan prince Hyakinthos. Since Hyakinthos was so attractive, he caught the attention and love of the sun god Apollo. However, Apollo wasn’t the only god who was interested in the prince. Zephyrus, the god of the west wind, also couldn’t keep his eyes off Hyakinthos.

When Hyakinthos chose to be with Apollo, Zephyrus didn’t take this as a sign to move on. One day, Apollo was teaching Hyakinthos to throw the discus as part of a game called quoits. Zephyrus saw the fun the two were having, and sent a strong wind in their direction. The wind struck a discus Apollo had thrown, sending it toward Hyakinthos, and striking him.

Despite Apollo’s best efforts to save the stricken prince, Hyakinthos died in his lover’s arms. As Hyakinthos’ blood dripped onto the ground, a flower sprung up in its place. Apollo named the flower hyacinth and vowed for it to serve as a reminder of Hyakinthos." (Copy and paste from this website)

However, I would also argue chetknox could also be orange lilies

Orange lilies repersent hatred, pride and distain, while also possibly representing passion (from this website)

This fits them because either they hate each other or they think they hate each other (based on how you interpret their dynamic) but I think either way it's a very intense hatred where there is definitely more to it, which is where the passion part comes in
