BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
Ugh, school.
I always hated it. It simply is pointless. All I want to do is stay home and play Crash Bandicoot.
I quickly got ready for school, or hell, and headed down to the train station. Since my house is kind of far away, and I don’t have a car, I have to take the dreaded train. Before I got on, I did a quick fringe check, then got on board.
Train rides are terribly boring, so I always have my phone with me to listen to music. I put on some Muse, and jammed out until I arrived at hell.
I head to my classroom like always, until I see a brunette boy in the hallway. I guess he is new, it doesn’t matter anyways. I quickly head to room 204, and sat down before Mrs. Williams got onto me.
Students started to pour in like always.
Then the new boy walked in. I only got a glimpse of him, but now that I really look at him, he is gorgeous. He has chocolate eyes that I could get lost in forever. Mrs. Williams announces that the pretty boy’s name is Daniel Howell, or just Dan. God, he had a pretty name, and he is pretty. No, not pretty, beautiful. Thank god the only empty seat is next to me.
When Mrs. Williams was in the middle of her lecture, Dan passes me a note.
“Hey, can you tell me your schedule? If you don’t mind of course.”
How could I mind? I nodded, and started to write my schedule down. I pass it back to him. His eyes lit up, he quickly jotted down something, and handed it back to me.
“Cool! We have the same schedule. :)”
YESSSSSS. This is just a lucky day for me. After class, he asked me my name.
“Phil,” I replied back. “You’re Dan right?”
He broke out into a smile, “Yep!”
The rest of the day, we chatted about our interests and discovered that we like the same things! At the end of the day, we traded numbers then headed home. On the train ride, I couldn’t stop thinking about him. He was just beautiful. He was sarcastic, but I could tell he was joking.
He texted me 30 minutes after I got home.
“Hi Philly :3”
That quickly turned into hours of conversation. He was so much fun to talk to! Time just seemed to stop whenever I interacted with him.
4 Months Afterward
The rest of the school year was just as great. It had it’s ups and downs of course, but that didn’t matter. I had Dan. We actually started dating near the end, and I’m so so so happy. Maybe, this is the start of something new.
And you know, maybe school isn’t as bad as I once thought it was. As long as Dan is here, I’ll be forever happy.

Life is beautiful, don’t you know?
Have you seen the glowing amber of the sunset?
Have you seen the lush forests of the wilderness?
Life is beautiful, Have you felt it?
The touch of the wind slowly stoking your face.
The feel of cool aqua water slipping through your fingers.
Life is beautiful and so are you.
Do you know the possibilities needed to create you?
Thew were infinite and yet you came out on top.
Life is beautiful, have you tasted it?
The saltiness of the sea.
The sweetness of sugar.
Life is beautiful, and so is the fact that we, two complete strangers, have met through the Internet connected by two people. Dan and Phil.
Life is beautiful, have you seen it?
The way you smile, both with your mouth and with your eyes.
The way your body is unique and so beautiful in itself.
Life is beautiful, and I find that if you look closely you’ll find something amazing that you’ve never seen before.
If you touch softly, then you’ll discover a new Favourite material.
If you listen silently, you will discover the sweet songs of birds.
If you think positively then you might find that you will see yourself in a better, more flattering light where the good outweighs the bad.
Life is beautiful and you should enjoy every second of it
Summary: Dan accidentally cuts his wrist while trying to wrap a present, and Phil gets the wrong idea
TW: self harm, blood
Dan sat down on the floor, Phil was out at the store and, by Dan’s estimations, he had about ten minutes before Phil got home. He just had to wrap a gift, that couldn’t take more than ten minutes, right? Dan measured out the right amount of wrapping paper and carelessly started to cut the paper off of the roll. Phil was going to love the plushie blobfish. Dan had found it at the store last week and decided it was the perfect thing for Phil.
He took the last chop at the paper and caught his wrist with the scissors. Looking down to check the damage, he let out a long sigh. He hadn’t cut in four months two weeks and three days (not that he was counting). The day Phil found out had been a long day full of difficult conversations and gentle kisses. Dan had made a promise not to do it again, and he was not one to go back on a promise, especially not one to Phil.
He wasn’t sure if this technically counted though, since it was an accident. It certainly ruined the fact that he was on the way to his scars fading by the time it got warm again. This cut was an ugly one. There was quite a lot of blood on the carpet and wrapping paper. Thankfully, Phil’s gift was safe on the couch.
Dan got up and went to the kitchen sink to rinse out the cut. He grabbed a paper towel to put pressure on the cut while he went to get bandaids. Phil walked into the kitchen just as Dan was turning off the faucet.
“Hey, could you get the mil– Dan, love, what happened? I thought we agreed you’d talk to me if you were feeling down? And you have been talking to me. You actually seemed better lately,” Phil said.
Dan was doubled over laughing.
“Love, What’s so funny?” Phil asked, looking hurt.
“Phil, it was an accident this time,” Dan gasped.
Phil raised his eyebrows. “I’m failing to see how a big gash on your wrist is an accident, but I’d love to hear the story, let’s go sit down.”
“Phil, no!” Dan lunged forward to stop him from going into the lounge. “Don’t go in there right now please. Could you get me some bandaids?”
Phil slowly turned around. “Dan, what are you hiding from me?”
“I’ll tell you if you get me bandaids.”
Phil rolled his eyes and went to get bandaids. While he did that, Dan hurried to shove the blobfish behind the couch with his uninjured hand. He sat down and waited for Phil to get back.
Phil hesitated at the door to the lounge. “Dan, can I come in there now?”
Dan waved Phil in and accepted the Hello Kitty bandaids. “Thanks, Phil,” he said.
“Alright. Now you have to tell me what happened to you,” Phil stated.
Dan grinned at him. “I was wrapping your present since you were out, and I caught my wrist with the scissors. I’m not completely sure how we’re going to get that out of the carpet.”
“Oh, Dan,” Phil sighed, pulling Dan into a hug. “You should really pay more attention when you’re using scissors.” He took Dan’s injured wrist in his hand and carefully covered the cut with three bandaids and placed a gentle kiss over them.
“I was so worried, love, don’t ever scare me like that again,” Phil murmured.
Dan whapped his arms around Phil and hugged him close. “I made you a promise, didn’t I? That’s one I’ll never break,” he whispered.
Phil placed a kiss on Dan’s lips and Dan kissed him back, winding his hands into the older man’s black hair. Phil pulled away, “We’ve still gotta put away those groceries,” he reminded Dan.
Dan rolled his eyes. He reluctantly got up and headed toward the kitchen with Phil. “Fuck the groceries,” he muttered.

Dan took in a short shakey breath. I’m fine he told himself. It’s okay. I’ll be fine. Oh What’s the point of course I’m not isn’t okay. I’m not sure I ever will be. He was slumped on the bathroom floor, knees tightly drawn in to his chest hoping that if he squeezed hard enough that the pressure on his heart would relent. The threat of tears burned the back of his throat like fire and seered the inside of his eyes with the troubles caused by that stupid, stupid truck. Why? Why do these things always happen to him. For once in his life he was happy. For once he had a complete life. Now his happiness had been brutally ripped out of his life. Now his life had been shredded to pieces and there was no way of piecing his life together after this.
Phil was dead. The colourful apartment now so empty and cold, with no warm presence of the man who had made who Dan was today. Phil was gone. With no Phil there was no Dan. They were a brand, they were bestfriends, they were inseprible and now it turns out that inseprible they were. Split savagely by the two fundamental concepts in the universe; Life and death. It felt so unfair to be alive when that’s all Phil had ever wanted. Phil deserved to live a long and happy life and now death had to come and snatch him away forever.
Phil was dead, there was no music blaring, no cute animal noises. Nothing. Just the sound of ragged breathing against a torn heart and the frustrated screams of having to live on when there seemed nothing to live for. It was unfair. No one deserved this, not Phil, not Dan. No one. Death should have taken him too. What life does he have without Phil? What even is life? Why did this happen? Why couldn’t that stupid truck driver look where he was driving. Why did Dan have to rely so much on Phil.? Why did Phil have the goodness in him to save Dan and suffer a painful separation from the world which no one, especially not Phil should have suffered through.
“Dan! Dammit Dan wake up!!” The feeling of Dan’s shoulders being shook aware snapped Dan’s red puffy eyes open. Dan could see Phil. Phil was alive. It was just a dream! Now all he could see is the blue, green and yellow constalation in front of his face. It was Phil. His Phil. He was alive. Dan lunged forward almost blindly and grabbed Phil tight, as if he would disappear if he let go. The memories of the dream flooded back and flooded his eyes. He let out a strangled cry and hugged tighter, being comforted by Phil hugging back with the same intensity. He was alive. His sobs slowly turned to sniffles and looked deep into the eyes of the one who he loved. “What happened?” Phil asked, his voice was soft, gentle. He cared. He was alive. Dan replied the only way he could, he leaned forward and kissed Phil. Putting as much love and passion into it as humanly possible. Dan placed his palms on Phil’s cheeks in an action that showed that he didn’t want to let go. Dan broke off the kiss and studied Phil’s face again and then breathed out a sigh of relief, dropping his head to Phil’s shoulder. “You’re alive” Dan whispered. A soft chuckle escaped Phil’s lips, “of course I am, I’m Thor no one can take me away from you” . Dan laughed, a small breathy laugh accompanied by a real smile with dimples showing and eyes lighting up. “I love you” Dan whispered softly, but just loud enough for Phil to hear him. Phil wrapped his comforting arms around Dan once more and whispered softly, but just loud enough for Dan to hear him. “I love you” It wasn’t a bold statement, but it didn’t have to be. It was the truth not one could live without the other, they needed each other. They were the ying to each others yang. They were the Winnie to each others Pooh. They were inseparable and now not even death do they part.
