Two Weeks
Two weeks
only two more weeks
of this suffering
of this racism
of this sexism
of this discrimination
of this anarchy
That's what we said
that was our response to an attempted coup
We tried to take it to court
we couldn’t stand a few more weeks of this horror
Then we got talked down to about a double standard
about how democrats can protest
yet republicans can’t
You storm the capitol and then just go home
while we stand in the street
and get hit, maced, and even killed
There’s a double standard all right
just not the way you see it
We asked our representatives what they though
We asked them is it was wrong
to storm the capitol
to attempt a coup
to halt democracy
Only 10 republicans denounced it
the other 200 stood by
they were bystanders
as the president bullied his own country
We tried to move on with it
we tried not to have to suffer with him any longer
but one man stopped us
one man prevented us from trying again
to remove this fowl man from office
So we waited
we counted down the days
until the two weeks were up
until we were released from his rule
until we could move forward
until inauguration day
On inauguration day
we tried to celebrate
there were festivities unlike any other year
we made history
Mr. President
Dr. Biden
Madam Vice President
Mr. Emhoff
But we could not celebrate
the fireworks were overshadowed by real work
17 executive orders set into action in the first 24 hours
there was so much damage to undo
a climate to save
racism, sexism, and homophobia to repeal
lives to save
Instead of a day of pure joy
we had a day of relief
we let out a collective sigh and thought
I won’t wake up tomorrow and
see that the president enlisted a riot
or is actively trying to destroy the environment
or that another woman came forward saying he sexual abused them
We are moving forward
but things didn’t just reset
we still have problems that need solving
At least now we are actively working towards a solution
the president is no longer denying the problems
the president is no longer inciting the problems
It’s a new day in America
We’ve finally have had a good night of sleep
the world around us hasn’t changed
Yet today is going to be a better day
because today we are more prepared
Today we are ready to face the challenges
We are moving forward
We are trying
As long as everyone keeps moving forward
as long as everyone keeps trying
we can do this
We can make the world a better place
Mr. Joseph Epstein – Joey – Grampa Simpson: I read your recent WSJ op-ed asking Dr.
Also excited for Dr. Biden, first Lady of the United States, to contune her career as an English professor of a community College. Like....amazing.
