HELENA BONHAM CARTER

DR. CLAIR, “The young and prodigious T.S. Spivet”.

Helena Bonham Carter is a scene stealer.

No matter how big or small the role is, she captures your attention and at the end of the movie she’s one of the top things you’re going to remember about it, even if she pops out for a few seconds.  She’s done an outstanding job on so many occasions, all of them actually. But she gets so little credit for it. She’s played anything and everything and she’s always remembered for the same things. Perfect things. But they’re not the only ones.  Dr Clair, in “The young and prodigious T.S. Spivet” is one of the things that get forgotten too easily,in my opinion.

 She was beyond perfect. 

From the tone of her voice to the look in her eyes. She made me smile with small things and little details but at the same time she broke my heart into pieces with a simple look or a whispered word.  She has that power, which is not appreciated nor recognized enough and I have no idea what else she’s supposed to do to prove that she’s just that good.

This is literally so cute ok-

(I would infuse her geek out with my own but sadly the knowledge from the dozens of bug books I read in elementary school has left me rip)

• It doesn't take a whole lot to get her talking about it, she's always ready to go off on a tangent

• You ask her one question and she'll go on for hours if you let her

• You reading in the same room as her while she examines a sample, you notice her muttering to herself and smile

• "Penny for your thoughts?"

• And she does that double take, you know the one, where she wants to pay attention to you but gosh darn it this specimen is so interesting but wait you're interested in it too??

• And she gets so animated and in depth about it, you can literally see her eyes light up and you wonder how she could possibly contain so much knowledge in that little head of hers because she has all the Latin names memorized and everything

• "But the REALLY interesting thing about this particular larvae is- oh, I'm sorry, i don't mean to go on and on..." "No no, please continue!"

• In her excitement she completely forgets that you aren't an expert like her and she uses all this terminology that you're not familiar with

• But its ok because her enthusiasm makes up for what you don't understand

• "That professor is trying to say these two beetles are the same species, but if you'll look- come here, dear, look..."

• She beckons you over to her and she has two beetles on pins

• "Well they do look the same..."

• "At first glance!" She says with a pointed finger. "But if you'll look closely, the mandible...

• "Oh wow"

• "You can see they're-"

• "They're completely different!"

• "-not the same- yes!"

• Also when you start picking up on stuff (because you're bound to with how much she loves talking about it) she gets soooo excited and happy

• Like you correctly identify a subspecies for the first time and she practically squeals with delight

• Ugh can we just take a moment to appreciate how CUTE THIS IS

• Ok anyways yea it gets to the point where she can just casually mention stuff to you and yk exactly what she's talking about

• Also! Sometimes her "geek out" isn't always excitement

• Sometimes its complete annoyance or frustration

• She's so supremely peeved by the fact that this particular insect has a subspecies that is UTTERLY USELESS like honestly why would evolution create this creature, why would the professors even feel the need to dignify this creature with its own category, why does it EXIST ITS JUST A LITTLE ASSHOLE HONESTLY I-

• She gets SO worked up about it and its just another thing that demonstrates how clearly invested she is

• But the anger geek out doesn't happen nearly as often

• Another little thing is if she goes off on one of her tangents late at night, her voice is likely to lull you to sleep, and she's so absorbed in what she's saying she probably doesn't notice for quite awhile XD

• Like you're both in her study and you fall asleep in the chair and when she finally notices she kinda stutters to a stop and takes in your sleeping form

• She's a little disappointed but also you're so darn cute like this

• And she looks at the time and realizes wow it is late

• And she finally takes you to bed with her

• (But I don't think she'd be able to carry you so you're gonna get woken up oop-)

Because it was Helena Bonham Carter’s birthday and what better way to celebrate it than to re-watch her movies? :D
