MC Frontalot (feat. Dr. Awkward & Zealous1): I'll Form The Head
MC Frontalot is a nerdcore rapper who does nerd shit on the mic. This song, a Voltron/combining mecha in general parody, is my favorite song by him. Him, Dr. Awkward and Zealous1 bring an entire universe to life in under five minutes and it's hilarious. When's the goddamn canceled Netflix show for this one?
Song Score: 40/10
Matty Cardarople in Dr. Awkward appreciation post
When life is all but done and through
Tell me what is it you hold onto?
Is it tender moments with a lover?
or the hate for the injustices you've suffered?
Dr. Awkward - R.P.G.
song: dr. awkward - now hiring (ft. schaffer the darklord)
Professor Shyguy climbed off and on the stage during his first song, NekoCon staff went bonkers, took their toys, went home.

5 Nerdcore Arists That Won’t Corrupt Your Save Data
Music is an art form loved by all. That much is a fact. It doesn’t matter what type of music you love, but if I were to ask your favorite song or album right now. I bet something has already come to mind. The first time I stumbled upon the nerdcore genre I was in absolute bliss. Talented artist creating tracks about geeky subjects became a favorite ear candy of mine. From video games and comic books to anime and awkward situations they cover it all. Just as with any other genre, some artists are more well known than others, and I’m here to let you know a few of my absolute favorites.
MC Frontalot MC Frontalot is often referred to as the founder of the nerdcore genre. He coined the term with his song “Nerdcore Hip Hop” and since then it has exploded. He even wrote a Penny Arcade Theme and performed at the Penny Arcade Expo as well.
mc chris Christopher Ward is not only a talented creator, but a lot of his fans adore his work with Adult Swim. Shows like Sealab 2021 (Heph), Aqua Teen Hunger Force (mc pee pants), and even Space Ghost: Coast to Coast are just a few things that he had a hand in. Considered another pillar in the rising of the nerdcore genre, mc chris talks about everything from his love of nerdy ladies (nrrd grrl) to beloved bounty hunters like Boba Fett and IG-88. In addition to his fantastic rap career mc chris donates money he’s collected from ebay auctions to Cystic Fibrosis research.
Mega Ran a.k.a. Random Random’s credentials don’t stop at ‘nerdcore artist’. Mega Ran has a bachelor from Penn State and enjoys teaching. If his love of Mega Man isn’t obvious already, his tracks make this very apparent. The subject is so present in his music that Capcom contacted him about the matter. Instead of a cease and desist, they explained that they loved what he was doing and even invited him to perform at the Capcom booth at SDCC. Good job, Capcom.
Adam Warrock This man creates mixes which make fandoms happy, very happy. One of the first albums I heard of his was a mix about Firefly. A whole album dedicated to Browncoats. That was enough to make me fall further into the rabbit hole. Doctor Who, Game of Thrones and even Magic the Gathering are some of the many mixtapes that this extremely talented man has created. The best part? A lot of it is free via his website.
Tribe One Let me just start by saying that this man created a song about Steve Irwin. Steve motherfraking Irwin. Tribe One will always be one of my favorite artists because not only does he talk about Kaiju and the danger of living in Gotham City but he takes time to get serious. One of the most emotional moments at a live show that I’ve ever experience was listening to him. The song “Different” explains how being different isn’t a bad thing. Anyone who’s felt like an outcast or been made to believe that they different in an awful way will relate to the track.
(Bonus Round!)
Dr. Awkward You know all those collections of 90’s references in slideshows that appear on your Facebook feed? Well Dr. Awkward took them and put them in a catchy, fun track for your listening pleasure. In addition to glorious nostalgia, he raps about otaku love and frequently makes gaming references. On the subject of gaming, his Legend of Zelda Mixtape is one of my favorite albums. The beautiful melodies that take me back to Hyrule paired with fantastic rhymes make me happier than Link in a pottery shop.
This is a mere handful of the nerdcore artists that exist. However, the collection is intended to help those who are unfamiliar dip their toe into the vast waters of Lake Hylia that is nerdcore. I will gladly admit to being caught jamming out to all of these artists at a stoplight only to receive awkward looks.
