Pre-Op Appointment!
I just got out of my pre surgery appointment and it went very well :] Dr. Mangubat wasn’t there, but his surgical assistant was. She was very friendly and asked what pronouns I use. My mom and I were just cracking jokes the whole time while the assistant went through what to expect before and after the procedure.
Bummer is I will be wearing a binder that is essentially a padded ace bandage with velcro holding down a giant foam pad for a week after surgery (yuck), but then I won’t ever have to deal with it again.
Otherwise everything is looking great! We paid our $20 co-pay for today’s appointment and for the actual surgery and then we are picking up 4 medications this evening–those are our only expenses. Not bad, eh?
I just can’t do my testosterone shot for a 10 day period: 7 days before and then 3 days after surgery I can’t inject. I’m anxious about that, but I am also seeing my doctor tomorrow so those questions will be taken care of.
I am 9 days aways from my pre-op surgery appointment with Dr. Mangubat in Tukwila, Washington. I’m getting really anxious and excited, but am still in total disbelief. I’ve been looking at the pictures of patients he’s helped, but I still have no idea how my chest is going to turn out because my body type isn’t represented on there… and everyone’s chest is going to turn out differently, of course.
I’ve been posting photos every day on my Instagram and focusing really hard on body positivity this month through going swimming quite a bit. I can’t wait to not stress over what I need to wear for swimming and just go. I’ve been battling with my perception of myself for a long time, but I’m ready to just let loose and be free.
Made it out of surgery. My chest is crazy sore, but I am super stoked because it is so flat. :D. I'll post some post op pics once I get the drains out and all that gross stuff.
I have surgery tomorrow at 10am (PST), and I think I'm well prepared for everything. Here's a list of what I have done so far, with the help of my wonderfully supportive wife Ashley of course.
-Moved things I might need below shoulder height so I can reach them.
-Cleaned entire house, blankets, bathrooms, floors etc.
-Going to sterilize my Xbox One controller, cell phone and computer before I go to bed.
-Have a zip up hoodie I plan to live in for the next week or so.
-Bought 2 kinds of laxatives.
-Picking up all of my medications for surgery this afternoon. I need to take an anti-nausea and antibiotic between 7 and 10 pm tonight.
-Avoiding salty foods as much as I can.
-Bought lots of Gatorade and protein rich fruit smoothies to help with hydration/healing.
-Gave my dog a bath, even though I won't be able to cuddle her for a while. :(
-Lots and lots of movies and video games to keep me busy.
-Got my outfit for tomorrow ready, and have my chest scrub and wipes for the morning.
-Lots of clean towels so I have some to use specifically for my chest area.
-Bought lots of hand soap.
-Got rid of fabric towels to dry hands after washing them, and replaced that with paper towels.
- I think that's everything. I hope?
If anyone has any other tips or suggestions please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it.
Top Surgery in 9 days. Whaaaat. :D
Two Months Post-Op
This week marked two months since my surgery. Here’s where things are at:
My incisions are HEALED. That includes the few weird spots shown on the left in my last update.
I have full motion and mobility.
My nipples are fully healed but have some weird coloring. (pictures below)
I am HAPPY!
For several weeks after my surgery, my skin was still really tight so standing up straight after laying felt…

Four Weeks Post-Op AND Back to Work
Four Weeks Post-Op AND Back to Work
Today marks four weeks! That means I’m technically off of restrictions according to Dr. Mangubat’s suggestions. I still need to be gentle with it due to some stuff I’ll talk about in a minute, but technically I’m a free man.
My three week check was earlier this week (making it more like 3.5 weeks), and Dr. Mangubat was really happy with how everything is looking. The left side was still swollen,…
