Rendog Variants: The Masterpost

Back in August, I set out on a journey to watch the entirety of Ren's Hermitcraft backlog. In preparation for an animatic I was starting to think about, I took a mental note of every character I came across. Having recently picked the animatic back up, I've started sorting through this list again, and I thought it would be fun to compile the entire list for anyone who was curious.

I've broken this list down into five categories: Standard, Roleplay Characters, Possessors, Friends, and Enemies.

Due to the amount of Ren Variants there are, I have had to split the list up into several reblogs. The full thread can be found here.

Disclaimer: This list includes only Rens from Hermitcraft and Third Life/Last Life. Variants from other series will not be included on this list, mostly because I haven't yet had the time to go through and learn about them. In addition, there are a few of Ren's standard skins that, due to Tumblr's image limit, I could not include in the posts. This includes Ren's Get Gorgeous and lumberjack skins from season 7. Apologies for the missing Rens!

hello. Could I please have a Doctor Renstein. Idk I just think there wasn't enough art of him in season 7 and I am a normal amount of attached to that funky little mushroom scientist skin <- lie

All hermitcraft scientists know is ignore health and saftey, conduct dangerous experiment, eat hot chip, and lie.

Y'know how mushrooms have a much more complex understanding of gender than humans do? Dr. Renstein [NOT ren] has a mushroom's understanding of gender. He uses he/they pronouns out of convenience but their gender is distinctly fungal in nature. Source: They're a mad scientist in the mycelium resistance working with mooshrooms. Of course he's part mushroom by now.

I think Renbob and Dr. Renstein should be friends! I think they should have been friends before either of them even met Ren. They met at a function to raise awareness for the diminishing populations of important fungi- Renbob was a part of the team working on fundraising, while Dr. Renstein was there to present his research on mushrooms.

And then they started working together for various other conventions and protests. And then they were pen pals. And then they were best friends.

Dr. Renstein lets Renbob sit in his lab while he works. Renbob keeps a first aid kid on hand to patch Renstein up whenever one of his inventions explodes. They go to the woods together and look at bugs and mushrooms and mud.

When they aren't in the same area they write letters back and forth: Renbob's have doodles filling the margins, either illustrations of what he's talking about or just mushrooms; while Renstein's are covered in inkstains and smell faintly of chemicals and is always written in green gel pen.

Dr. Renstein was a mycologist when they first met and Renbob was a hippie and they learned engineering/mechanics together.

There's an exponential graph of "time they've been friends" to "Renstein's lack of lab-appropriate clothing". Renstein's lab coats have patches of bright, patterned fabric sewn into them and paint all over them and he wears elaborate friendship bracelets that Renbob made for him.

Renbob almost immediately introduced Renstein to Ren when he found out Ren had joined the Mycelium Resistance.

I just think they should be friends ok.

petition for more dr renstein posts i keep checking the tags and seeing the same fifteen posts half of which are just me talking to myself in an echo chamber of my own creation please why is he not beloved. look at him. hes a friend and a menace. dr renstein supremacy. i have not been posting dr renstein propaganda enough.

I think every hermitcraft fan has that one character their favorite hermit made that showed up maybe three times tops and then never again. Mine is Dr. Renstein.
