My Saviour - Family Reunion
A/N: Written for mine and Kari’s ( @thing-you-do-with-that-thing ) 12 days of Christmas Challenge. Betaed by the lovely @thorne93
Prompt: Traditions.
Characters: Dr. Dean x Reader, Sam x Jess, John
Wanings: none.
Wordcount: 1047
This was Dean's fourth shift in a row, and it was starting to take a toll on him. Not that he wasn't used to working consecutive days, but because the hospital had to rearrange some of the shifts he had been working late the night before and early this morning, leaving just five hours between the two shifts. The good thing was that he would be home around five this afternoon and didn't have to go back in until late on the 25th so you would get to spend Christmas eve and Christmas day together.
This also worked out expertly with the surprise you had for him, and that made you extra giddy.
“So, dinner and decorating the tree tonight?” you asked as Dean took the last bite of his breakfast.
“Absolutely,” he said through a mouthful. “I'm sorry I've been working so much,” he said, getting out of his chair, rounding the table and kissing you softly. “I know this isn't exactly what we planned.”

A couple of more weeks went by and the trial was only two days away, which had your nerves working on high gear. Sam had done a really good job of preparing you, walking you through the ins and outs of a trial like that, so you knew how it was going to go, but you still didn't feel like you were ready.
Dean noticed the little changes in your behavior as the trial approached, like fidgeting with your hands, not making eye contact as much, not talking to him, but the most prominent change wa that you had started sleeping with your back turned to him. You were still in his bed every night, but you didn't hold his hand, or curl up to him anymore, he missed that.
What Dean didn't know was that you had an entirely different reason for that, for pushing him away a little. It had happened that night when you had curled up in his lap and thanked him for everything, that you had felt it. When you had taken his hand and laced your fingers together, and you could feel the warmth spread in your heart and the butterflies that had manifested in your stomach, that's when you knew that Dean wasn't, and couldn't ever be just your friend.

A week passed with you trying to adjust to your new life. Dean was at work most days so you busied yourself with cleaning and cooking, and general house chores. He had insisted that you didn't have to do all of that, but you were so used to keeping your hands busy at all times that you had a difficult time relaxing. You had been by work one day and talked to Bobby about getting back to work, but he had insisted that you took a couple of more weeks off, and Bobby had a tendency to get his way.
As for you and Dean, things were good. You kept sleeping in his bed, because it seemed to still your nightmares and as far as you could tell, he didn't mind. The two of you seemed to have found a rhythm that you were both comfortable with.
The trial was set to start in a few weeks, but Sam assured you that it was an open and shut case, they had plenty of evidence in addition to the fact that they had caught Alex in the act, so if all went according to plan, you wouldn't even have to testify. You dreaded going to court and having to see Alex again, but...
All in all, things were looking up.

“Come here,” Dean said, helping you to your feet, holding your hand as you stepped out of the shower. “Here-” he put the towel around your shoulders and rubbing his hands up and down your arms to try and warm you. “-what kind of pain?”
“In my back.” Your eyes were wide in horror as you spoke, but for the first time you kept your eyes glued on Dean's. “I thought the warm water would help.”
“We need to get you out of these clothes, okay?” You nodded. “Stay here and I'll go get you something to wear.”
You did as Dean said, not moving a muscle as he went to grab you some clothes, returning with one of his large sweatpants and a sweater, hoping they would warm you up. He stood outside the door as you changed and then he followed you into your bedroom once you emerged. Your entire body shook as you sat down on the edge of the bed. Dean grabbed the blanket from the bed and wrapped it around your shoulders before kneeling down in front of you.
“You want to tell me what happened?” he asked, one hand resting on your knee.
“I… uh… I had this pain in my back, and it wouldn't go away so I figured the warm water might help.” You pulled the blanket tighter around you as you spoke, your voice flat and detached. “Then it got worse before I could even get to the bathroom, this kind of sharp, stabby pain in my stomach.” Dean already knew where this was going. “There was just so much blood, and now I don't have anymore pain.”
“I don't…” Dean started but you interrupted him.

Dean was restless at work the next afternoon. Sleep hadn't come easy the night before, and you were constantly on his mind as he was trying to think of how he could make things up to you.
He was barely two hours into his shift when his boss, Dr. Crowley, pulled him into an empty exam room.
“What's going on?” Dean asked, confused by the sudden action.
“I've called in Dr. Matthews and she's on her way in to cover your shift,” he explained, giving Dean a stern look.
Dr. Fergus Crowley was a man that just oozed respect. It was something about the way he carried himself, or maybe it was the British accent… whatever it was, people just instantly respected him. He was also a fair boss who treated all his employees with the same respect they gave him.
“What?” Dean stupidly questioned.
“I can tell you’re not on your A game today, Winchester, and I need my doctors to be on their A game,” he said. “I don't know what's going on, but I want you to take tonight off and then come back well rested for your morning shift tomorrow, can you do that?”
“Yes, sir,” Dean said, still a little confused about what just happened.
As soon as the conversation ended, Dean made his way to the nurses station to give them some updates and some notes to pass on to the doctor who was coming to cover for him. The nurses were all gathered around the computer to look at picture of one of their grandkids when the phone rang. All of them looked up at Dean and he instantly reached for the phone and answered, introducing himself as he picked up.
“Hey, this is Bobby Singer calling, do you have a patient by the name of (YN) (YLN) there?”
Dean recognized the man as your boss, and as soon as he heard your name chills went down his spine as dread filled his entire body. “No, she's not here. What's going on? I'm a friend of hers.”
The line went quiet for a bit before Bobby spoke again. “How good of a friend are you?”
“Good enough that I know what's going on at home,” Dean answered boldly.
“Okay,” Bobby dragged. “She didn't come into work today, which never happens, she always let's me know, and I can't reach her on her phone.” He sounded worried.
“Have you called her house?”

You had spent four days in the hospital. You had two broken ribs and a pretty hefty concussion, but they were finally letting you go now.
The police had been in to question you a couple of times, and you had told them everything that had happened over the years. Dean had provided them with all the medical reports and Sam had offered to take your case, no charge. You had tried to refuse, but there was absolutely no way he was backing down. All in all things were looking pretty good right now, that was, until you realized you had no home to go to.
The house belonged to Alex, not that you would want to live there anyway, and you had no friends or family to stay with while searching for an apartment.
Dean had hardly left your side, except for when he was working, and even then he was checking up on you whenever he had a spare moment. He wasn't working when another doctor came in to talk you through the release papers, so he was sitting at your bedside, the both of you watching TV.
“Ready to get out of here?” Dr. Crowley asked from the foot of your bed.
“Yes,” you answered instantly. You had no idea where to go, but you were happy about not staying in the hospital any longer.
“There's a few terms of your release though,” he informed, looking down on the clipboard in his hands. “Unfortunately we can't let you go alone. This is because we haven't been able to to an x-ray of your chest, or an MRI of your head, so we don't know if there is any internal bleeding or if there is any swelling in your brain. I don't want you to worry too much, because the symptoms of those would most likely have appeared by now, but to be on the safe side we don't want you to be alone,” he explained.
Dean had explained to you that because you were pregnant, they couldn't do the x-ray and stuff because the radiation could hurt the baby, what you didn't know was that you wouldn't be allowed to go anywhere alone.
“I don't have anyone that can stay with me,” you said to Dr. Crowley.
Happy Father’s Day ya dorks
