“Whoa, hey! - It’s okay, I’m not going to hurt you,” you said calmly, holding up your hands.

The man in front of you wielded his cane like a weapon. You could see the maelstrom behind his eyes. Blood dribbled down your chin. The sound of it splattering on the floor blaring in the silence.

You stepped forward. The man stepped back.

“What are you?” he asked.

“There’s many answers to that. Let me introduce myself -” You told him your name. “And you are…?”

He eyed you warily, lowering his cane back to the floor and leaning heavily on it. “Viktor.”

Day 29 - Maelstrom

Well it's my bday (/ω＼) Some Sylus will always be a treat for a big day like that

It was like an apocalypse decided that this time it will hit for real. Guns blazing, protocorse exploding, wanderers roaring in the distance. 

A maelstrom similar in size to a dying star. And in the midst of it? 

You. 

You and Sylus. 

“Come now, kitten, you wanted some action.” he chuckled so lightly that it almost felt like you were not bombarded by bullets. 

“Not like that, Sylus!” you sent him an accusatory look. You didn’t have the right to be mad at him, it was partially your fault. 

“Beggars can’t be choosers, sweetie!” he shouted when an explosion sounded.

Drabble Challenge — Day 29: Maelstrom

   Rain falls to the ground. It’s not the gentle rain Kalim usually calls forth with Oasis Maker, but a violent storm – the water seeps into the desert sand, forming a rivulet, then a river, then a maelstrom that leads the way back to Scarabia. To Jamil.

   With this, they can go back to the dorm and save everyone, the students left behind and Jamil whose whole energy and magic are being sapped away by the Overblot. All of this started because of Kalim – so he grits his teeth and wipes his tears away as he chants the spell once more.

Drabble Challenge 2025 Day 29 Prompt: Maelstrom

Wei jolted as the conductor announced the approaching Sandrock stop.  

This was it.  This was where his life began anew.  No more scrabbling for food, no more looking over his shoulder as the spectre of death shadowed him, no more praying for death to end it all while simultaneously fighting his hardest to survive.  

His twin brother was in this town.  Locked in a cage, appropriately.  

The train stopped. His gut roiled with a maelstrom of emotion. Time to face the man that stranded him in the most dangerous place in the world then stole his life.  

Wei was ready.

1st of Fishing, year 7046

Despite the undercurrents and the fishermen, the sea looks calm and clear. Even the sky has cleared and the lightning has almost disappeared. Like the ghosts and traveling spirits of the ocean had ceased their sempiternal whispers of bad omens and had started to nap for a few tens of days. They will be fully awake for the next Storm, but now, everything is rest for the people in the land, joy for the fishers and false confidence for their prey. Our provider is late, though.

We’re stuck by the shore. The South Maelstrom has to wait, peaceful in contrast.

Some friends just make the best laid plans.

"Why are we here, again?" Reka shouted in a desperate attempt to overcome the roaring gales.

"Day out!" Dusa replied, unfazed by the splashing of the waves and the monstrous swell of the sea. "You need the fresh air! Papa and I loved going on boat trips with our yacht, so I thought, why not take my new best friend on one!"

She scurried around to tie the sail - Reka was too busy panicking at the maelstrom beckoning in the distance to voice her concerns.

Why did I agree to this? Her ideas are always disasters in the making.
