A cat was the last thing you expected when you walked into the workshop. It was lazily rubbing against Viktor's leg. He was slumped over in his seat, cheek resting on the table. When it saw you, the cat sauntered over, patiently waiting for you to stick your hand out.

"Cute cat," you said, kneeling. "Where'd it come from?"

"Thanks," Jayce said, "she was here when we came in this morning. We named her Poppy."

"Poppy, huh? That's a nice name. Do you like it, Poppy?"

The cat purred loudly, nudging the top of her soft head against your fingers.

Day 31 - Poppy

It's a cheat day :) May was longer so today 2 for the price of 1! (ﾉ∀`♥) This as well finishes the drabbles prompt challenge !

His tail twitched, he was irritated. He wanted to give her something that was not gems or gold. She said she liked those, but she seldom wore them. 

Flowers were a worthy gift. Were they?

He huffed when another petal fell off. 

“What’s wrong, Sy?” she gently touched his shoulder. His eyes softened looking at her, she was beautiful. “Did you try to pick poppies?” 

She kneeled beside him looking at the flowers.

“You don’t pick those. Some things aren’t ours to take, we can only watch them from afar, otherwise they’ll die.“  

“And you, (y/n)?”

“I am yours”

Drabble Challenge — Day 31: Poppy

   Slumped against Silver, Kalim is asleep in the courtyard. It’s a common sight since they’ve become friends, but it’s not one Jamil particularly likes. It’s unbefitting of his status…

   Surrounding them are the critters that cling to Silver at all times, and they’re not simply looking at them idly either. Birds and squirrels alike are carrying flowers that they drop on top of Silver’s hair – some of them fall on Kalim too so Jamil brushes them off. A few red petals – poppies? – flutter and land on his lips. Jamil stares at them for too long before sweeping the petals away.

May Drabble Challenge Day 31: Poppy

I actually did it! I managed to write post 31 drabbles this month, ahhh. What a good challenge, forcing me to keep writing through my creative block and the hard times.

Thanks @thedrabblecollective for the wonderful prompts and the writers I met along the way (cheers for the encouragement @peascribbles, you're a star)! I'll write a little post to sum up my experience as a first timer, but for now, here's the last drabble! (I totally didn't write the last three in the last half an hour...no, definitely not.)

The flower set quietly in Reka's hand. Its petals glinted blood red in the setting sun and ascending moons, as if Iom were reaching out from someplace across matter and time, urging her to keep strong.

We understand so little of the cosmos, she thought wistfully, who knows you're not standing next to me right now.

Some comfort in the unknown, finally.

Reka didn't know how to cry, but Dusa was more open in her mourning. If Iom's wife hadn't just greeted them, she'd think Dusa was his spouse.

"A p-poppy? Pretty."

"They were his favourite. They'll keep him company."

Drabble Challenge 2025 Day 31 Prompt: Poppy

Alo sat glumly at the Blue Moon bar staring at the menu, hunger gnawing at him.

“Tummy still bothering you?” Owen asked sympathetically.

“Yeah.  Your food is delicious, Owen, but I just can’t get used to it.”

“I understand.  I have something for you.  I have a chef friend in Atara.  She sent me some recipes and several ingredients we don’t have here.”  Owen slid a platter in front of Alo and lifted the lid dramatically, “Ta-da!”

“Are those lemon poppy seed muffins?” Alo bounced in his seat, excitement filling him.

“Yep!  All for you.”

“Thanks, Owen, you’re the best!”
