How do you think Nick would cope with Ellis' death? i love your work and would love to read a prompt about this!
Let’s assume that they’re already an item/”getting acquainted” when this happens.
Nick would blame himself a hundred percent for Ellis’s death, even if Ellis sacrificed himself and took his life willingly, Nick would resent himself so much.
They watch helpless as a Tank crests a pile of rubble and throws a slab of concrete down atop Ellis, who screams out as his legs are crushed. He yells for the others to run and unclips a pipebomb from his belt. The last they see is Ellis holding the ticking red bomb, a swarm of zombies overwhelming him with a Tank near enough on top of him.
When they reach the saferoom, there’s barely time between Coach closing the door behind him and Nick yelling, starting to tip over cabinets and throwing chairs across the room.
“IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME!” he cries, letting out his anguish and pain on the furniture until he collapses on his knees amongst the carnage, head in his hands. Rochelle comes to hold him, arms locked around her teammate and rocking him gently.
Nick continues muttering through sobs. “It should’ve been me... should’ve been me...”
